Minelab Explorer SE Pro - False reporting

Post by dirtrider »

Hi Guys
Recently I noticed that my detector started to false reporting in low sound. I have checked for the problem and at first thought that my coil connector is the reason. I opened (it was not easy) and resoldered it again.

I thought that I solved the problem when tested at home, but as soon as I went in the same nearby woods it started to false reporting again. Constant low sound like aluminium.

Now I checked also the male connector at the computer and can't define it properly which connector is faulty. If I wiggle the connector it starts to make sounds even tho coil is static.

Before I start to tear down the male connector would like to ask if someone went this way. I also made some measurement for conductivity and this is result. Can someone check on his Explorer SE if he gets the same readings as I did.

I also noticed If I take a screwdriver and drag over connector housing it will start to make sounds also if I touch pin 5 which is not connected at all. Strange

I had a similar problem with a Minelab XS2 and tracked it down to a broken wire near to the coil connector. I bought a new connector off ebay then cut the old connector and about 6 inches of wire off the coil cable and soldered the new connector on.

The reason I went for a new connector was, as you have found, it is a very fiddly job and I figured it was easier to solder on a new one and having the old one with the wires still attached I would have that to work to.

Here I also recorded a short video. Detector makes sound if I touch pin 5 even tho is blank and also when I touch pin 4 it makes sound. Conductivity is also between housing and pin 3 and a little bit at pin 2 and 1
Here is a video

Can someone who has Explorer SE make the same test as I did in video?
