First outing with the Ace 250 - Exmouth Beach, Devon.
Ok, so finally got out with the detector yesterday morning.
I was a little sceptical as there are many posts bemoaning the excessive false signals etc.. that the ACE 250 suffers from on the beach. To be frank I could not fault the machine at all.
I tried several settings and in the end settled on the one that seemed most stable. Based on a youtube video the one I ended up sticking with had the far left 3 bars discrimed out, and sensitivity was adjusted sometimes to full sensitivity or setting it back just one notch. This seemed to give a generally stable setting to work with.
A buddy of mine came along with his Makro Racer, that he has used for some time and we checked each machine out on several signals throughout the day, and generally if the Racer saw it, so did the Ace, so all in all I was well chuffed that this "lower end" detector performed fine on the beach.
Ok, so what did I find, without using swear words .. Not a lot...
21p in change, some foil and an electrical connector, and the top of a can. The drier sand did seem quite deep on the steps so I wonder if the finds were buried deeper and needed a good storm to clear the top surface, or there were no finds to be had, more signals found in the damp / wet sand so we concentrated more time there.
Well, after 5 hours wandering we called it a day but all in all it was really enjoyable even if little of note was found (my buddy found £1.20 !!) Pity i did not take a hat, burnt head and face now and swingers arm ache, will take a few trips to get my arm in shape!!
OK, picky of first time in well over 20 years I was out with a detector!

Lifetime Garrett swinger and traded my still in the book Ace for a Freedom 3 plus....not my choice of a Garrett. Again....wet sand, with hot rocks...p.i. machines are the way to go.

A nice machine m8, works really well on pasture and dry sand but you may find that you will have to back off the sensitivity on wet saline sand. I have a "EuroAce" and found plenty with it. Couldn't bare to part with it when I upgraded to a Safari; so kept it as a backup machine.

It was a fairly hot day for Dave's first trip Dave forgot to mention I also found this spent round case (blank) on the beach too. It was very very quiet no ring pulls not even much junk like Dave say's it looks like the sand has built up with the storms of rescent past.

Nice one
I'm in Exmouth, myself. Sure was a nice day for it! I see you're up near the 'roundabout' end. The other side of the lifeboat station's a better spot, that's where the majority of beach goers are.
Regards,
Simon

Its not the price tag .... but how you use it that counts!! rl; rl; rl;
Imagine there is no heaven, only sky above us.
If you look at old pictures of Exmouth the most popular area was around the clock tower. This is where the oldest finds are. Glad you had some success.

oh yeah.. Steve found a bullet case.
Silly me forgot, blame sun-stroke :-)
Think we need an earlier or evening stint to get where it's busier in the day, maybe more finds in that part of the beach :-)

Often detecting alone; I prefer to start just after dawn, depending on the tide times and heights. Generally no drunks, day trippers, or nosey dogs at that time of the day. It is better and safer to detect in pares but I lost my regular beach buddy some time ago but unlike busses I'm not expecting one to come along any time soon.deepskysteve wrote: Mon May 22, 2017 9:10 pm Hi Simon, Yeah it was a bit busy so we didn't want to encroach reason we kept to the quiter end we do really need to go when less people, next time we go we will give you a shout and meet up![]()
