explorer xs settings and new coil
took the explorer xs out yesterday with my sun ray probe goto say it is a wicked detector for deep finds but just a little on the heavy side which hurts my back after a while, I'm in the process of going from the quick start mode to the advanced mode and starting to do the accepting and regecting on the smart finds , just wondering what sensitivity people run on the detector and what mode they go in (conductive , ferrous etc ) most of the fields i go on arnt ploughed so need a bigger coil also wondering what people recommend for coils

It's a great machine. Play with the stem length as the arm stress can be reduced by getting the balance right. There are huge numbers of programmes about but probably better to search the old threads for them. Most experienced users tend to run with the screen open and the sensitivity as high as you can stand. Get used to the swing speed and whatever you do don't use auto as it kills the depth.oldhamlad wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2017 6:41 pm took the explorer xs out yesterday with my sun ray probe goto say it is a wicked detector for deep finds but just a little on the heavy side which hurts my back after a while, I'm in the process of going from the quick start mode to the advanced mode and starting to do the accepting and regecting on the smart finds , just wondering what sensitivity people run on the detector and what mode they go in (conductive , ferrous etc ) most of the fields i go on arnt ploughed so need a bigger coil also wondering what people recommend for coils

Hi,
I've had the explorer 2 and am currently using the SE pro,and weight has always been an issue with these machines.
I did buy a bungee harness for it a few years back but haven't really used as it seemed to get in the way.
I've been using the machine for around seven years, you do get used it to to be fair..as advised in a previous post..persistence is the key..

I bought a xs a few weeks ago and havent had the chance to get out yet (busy)
I bought a Detech 13" ultimate coil from crawfords on ebay, as this seems to be a coil that gets lots of recomendations off a lot of people, i will post my findings when i get out and use it
When i had an exp 2 i sold last year, that had the detech sef 12x10 and that was a goodun as well
If you are going to get the xs serviced (oldish machine) i recomend steve cox at MSR
He serviced mine and put a 1/4" headphone socket so i can use my chef headphones, from sending it to getting it back was 2 days (steve does not hang around)
