frayed outer sheathing on coil.
hi i have noticed that the outer protective sheathing to my coil has split due to age slightly above the plastic screw in cable protector, does this plastic cable protectore screw out of the coil, and slide up the cable?it has a plastic nut at the bottom so i think it may do so,if it does i will repair outer cable with adhesive shrink tubing, any thoughts people or is it a new coil.

If you try to remove the bottom nut it will probably put pressure on the cable inside the coil and make it worse.
The only thing you can do is use self amalgamating tape which bonds to itself as you stretch it
Not pretty but a bodge.
You could though unsolder the wires in the screw in fitting at the far end and slide heat shrink all the way down but its a job for a decent soldering iron the plastic insolation melts pretty easily and its tight in there!

Not exactly sure where the repair is but you could try some liquid roofing paint. Its rubberised, waterproof, hardwearing and sticks to pretty much anything

History the best story yet!

Cut a little of the strain relief away.
I would use fiberglass and epoxy as that's what I have here and make a water tight band aid.
Self amalgamating tape would also work. Make sure ifs waterproof. If water has seeps in via capillary action the coil will be useless. If using tape I would be tempted to whip some string over the top to stop the ends unravelling

Halfords and B&Q have "Serious Glue" put it on thick and it forms a very good flexible bond.
