School Boy error design fault

Post by oldartefact »

Anyone who has the 3 way charging leads will know that the wires are not long enough to simultaneously charge the control box and coil without first disengaging the box from its mounting... and all for the sake of an extra 6ins of cable.. It wouldnt be so bad but disengaging the box every time it requires charging risks damaging the snap-on fitting.

Nope, never have that problem. Drop the lower stem and sit it beside the upper stem. The pain is undoing the thick plastic snap bag I tape over the box as a waterproof cover.

Thats what I've got .. http://regton.com/cable-usb-to-3-mini-usb-xp-deus.html . but to simultaneously charge the control box and coil I have to either
1. snap-off the control box from its mount
Or
2. separate the stems and lay the coil alongside the control box

But I find it impossible to charge both box and coil without doing either of the above...
Were the micro usb cables each just 3 inches longer,,, the whole set-up could be simultaneously charged without disengaging anything.

Do you mean disengage the lower stem from the top stem?

Interesting. I don't mount the box on the stem in case I forget when I put it down to dig, it sits in my pocket, so never had that problem. But Olderartefact makes a good point - just slide out the whole lower stem and you can then charge them both without disengaging the box. Although the box is designed to be removed, and shouldn't do any harm being regularly removed, it is a pain to do so understand your frustration.

Yes. I never fold it completely as it is usually covered in muck plus I have the shotgun barrel protectors on which get squashed when I fold it. I normally just drop the bottom stem when I put it in the car anyway.

What i meant was buy Three seperate cables they are more than long enough for what you need ::g
But I've just bought a new set ... the last lot having packed in after 3.5 years..
I have got through two control box mounts also at £12 a pop..

The charging lead was likely designed when the control-box was fixed in place with magnets, and removing it didn't wear out anything.

What I find is that with repeated removal the control box mount slackens off ... to the point that the mount eventually develops hairline cracks ... meaning that the control box falls off every verse end. I''ve just installed a new moun on the top of the stem and the box fits on very snugly ... but having to take it off everytime it needs recharging is going to ruin the snug fit... if only the recharging wires were 6in longer the recharging could be done with coil and box insitu... all for the sake of 6ins of wire... thats why I refer to it as a school boy error,,, this should have been thought about years and years ago... maybe the design team just dont use the machine?

The law of unintended consequences...
Like the new £1 coin now gets lodged in kiddies throats and could be fatal ... whereas the old design just slipped down, but hey ho they are harder to forge!!!

If you fit a male to female mini USB extension cable to one of the charger outputs, it will then be long enough to reach the remote without removing it. ::g

It wasn't really intended as an analogy, more of a dire warning, if just one life is lost as a result of the new coin... it will a devastating tragedy... there must have been a better design, than one inadvertently designed to get lodged.

Thats a great idea ... how would you go about sourcing one that will be the right fit?
