We can have a nice little brainstorm. Im sure many good ideas will come up.. Then hopefully Liam will give it a overlook and consider if modifications will be in place... Me personal like HAMMERED better than the HAMMY.. but then always black and white... OooO

Did the change to HAMMERED code idea die here... [:)
Well. As long we read it, and try to do our best to meeting the most basic..
For me the the most important is size given in mm or mm scale in photo.. And that the photo is desently in focus so the find can be carefully studied for an postitive ID..
HH all..

Thanks John for your interest!
The quality of the ID requests has really improved over the past year, so well done everyone. The more information is given allows some of us to actually attempt an ID )scale and pics vital) and any other info such as machine settings and type of land can add so much more interest for the rest of us who want to find the same items!
If any topics do pop up that do not have the right info, then a polite reminder may be enough to get the scale/pics etc added on, its easy enough to forget when in a hurry to get something posted up in a hurry, Liam ::g :;@

REMINDER FOR THOSE FINDS COMING IN ON SATURDAY ...
Lets get the right information included in your find. If its that special to get you to put it on here for an ID, then its special enough to have all the details, good luck, Liam ::g

Hi all, please remember to add as much info as possible when submitting your recovered finds for an ID. The Hammy Code is there to offer some guidance on what is needed and especially at least two good sized clear photos with a suitable scale or alongside a modern coin. Info on the machine used and settings are ALWAYS appreciated. If you submit an ID request that makes no attempt to supply the right info then it may be deleted as there are enough topics on here to help you get it right or to make some attempt to do so. Any probs on this please send me a PM. The Hammy Code is designed to make ID topics that bit more interesting as part of a FORUM and not simply a personal ID service. By having more information we can ALL have a chance of making a good ID, cheers, Liam :;@

Thanks, yes I agree. We have had many new members who have finds to be identified but who fail to supply the right information. It takes just a minute more, so can everyone please make the effort? Its not like FB where anything can be posted up. Big thanks to those who do make the effort, we have allectus who can make a good ID in fog at 100m but for the rest of us mere mortals, we need as much detail as possible, scale or with a modern coin partially showing, both sides, non-blurry pics of a large size, perhaps cropped down to include only the find and any info on machine and settings is ALWAYS appreciated by others with the same machine, cheers, Liam ::g

Just a thought. It seems to me, that new members are not making themselves aware of the rules of the forum. I have no idea how this could be set-up, but would it be feasible for 'prospective' applicants for forum membership to answer 3 questions, the answers to which can only be located by a full reading through of the forum rules? ss47

Hi ss47, when a new member logs in for the very first time they do get redirected to the rules page, obviously many will not be interested in reading the section and will want to jump right in the forum.
I agree there certainly needs to be something like you say where members first need to read the rules but I would imagine any system will simply get bypassed etc. How many people wip through through the various terms and conditions sections of many online agreement pages simply to click the tick box at the bottom etc.
I will however see if I can find something to improve and help the system ::g
Cheers

Is it possible to "watermark" the new topic input box in the finds ID section, or perhaps have a sentence at the top of the box advising the need for the HAMMY Code, when submitted it doesn't generate or migrate to the posted new topic?

Or the the line advising the need for the code to be pre populated in the box and non editable.

Just a thought

Regards Steve
