Digger Diary: Hope in the Hills, Chapter 5, I Missed a Hammy! Day 85 (see last post)This site is getting better and better each week. Brilliant set of finds and loving the story of the one hole stash. That must have been such fun to dig out. But that 'almost' gold coin must have got the heart thumping b;>

Thought I'd add a couple of close up of these items
George III Guinea forgery Top of the Pewter? Military cane Thanks for reading and commenting. Here's what I know so far about the site. It previously had a farm on the site that was demolished in the early 1920's. The land was then mined for coal. After the pits closed the land was left to ruin and nature has gradually reclaimed the area. Lots of spoil heaps have now grassed over along with new trees grown since then. Great videos and finds again
![]() I'm really intrigued as to what on their with such an amount of silver coins, rings and other jewellery, not to mention the other finds. If it was up to me I would definitely promote the "Our Navy" badge from an average find to a good one, I think it is a WW1 swetheart brooch, there may be a manufacturer and date on the back? I'm still burning you'll never put the spark out in my soul
Hi Stillburning, first of all there was a farm on the site that grew wheat. The farm was demolished in the early 1920's. After that the area was heavily mined and lots of land was disturbed. This would explain the lack of hardly anything of age. The mining was then abandoned during the strikes and the land was just left to ruin. Brambles and elders and nettles overtook the place until this time. It's been largely cleared by a private landowner who has granted me permission to hunt there.
The Our Navy button does have an inscription on the back which reads. H. W. Miller Ltd. B'ham 18 I hope you get chance to view hunt 73. I have a new camera and sound plus I've improved the information and photos in my video. Some feedback would be great from yourself or any others who'd like to give me some feedback. I'd be very grateful. Happy diggin, all! ![]() You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks for the extra information, it is a sweetheart brooch rather than a button, H.W. Miller Ltd were incorporated in 1941 (and still trading) so it is WW2 or later.
Thanks also for the history of the site, for some reason there must have been regular gatherings of large numbers of people there to have that amount of finds. As well as being a productive site it looks as if you will able to search there all year round so look forward to the next video ![]() I'm still burning you'll never put the spark out in my soul
Hunts 68-73 have been on that site if you take a cursory glance over the photos from then you'll see quite a few bullets and other military evidence on this site too. Such as buttons and badges. There's even a couple of unknown items which could be military too. I happily take close ups of any items you'd like to take a closer look at. Derbyshire based concealed junk removal operative.

Here's the details:
Date of hunt: Sunday 13 August Location: Derbyshire Ground: woodland (low mineralization, low iron contamination, no hot rocks) Settings: V4 HOT Detector: XP Deus with 11" coil. (v4 version) Hunt Time: 3 hours. Hello and welcome to another edition of Deus Digger Diary. I know it's been a long time since I posted one of my hunts but I have been focusing on my Youtube channel plus I've been busy with life stuff. Anyway enough excuses. Here's how I got on. I had a call from a friend of mine who said I could do a mate's land. So I jumped at the chance. I drove there and it was up and up. I initially passed it was so out of the way. The drive to the place was pretty hair-raising, right on a cliff edge! The guy showed me around and said "I've got all this land you're free to go anywhere..." Here's my thoughts. Oh my days, have you ever seen primordial forest before? I'm thinking Fangon (Lord of the Rings) but I put on a polite smile and said my Thank yous. Well, I got to detecting on the very sparse bits of flat ground and straight away I got a beautiful military Yorkshire Regiment cap badge. Followed after by an old Penny in wonderful condition. The game was a foot. I detected where I could, including climbing a very steep bank, risking life and limb but to no avail. I even tried at the side of an old tennis court, where I found a cool hexagonal Booth's Distilleries bottle. I had a great time but after 3 hours it was time to call it day. You can only fight weeds for so long! Thanks for joining me on this hunt and if you are bored/time on your hands see me in action on Youtube and you can see this hunt. I don't show loads of rubbish and I attempt at being charismatic! You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
