Which coil would you recommend for minelab explorer SE

Post by Doyoudigitman »

Hi guys
I have just bought a second hand minelab explorer SE it comes with the standard slimline coil. However I was doing a bit of research and which coil would you recommend the Nel Tornado 12x13 or the SEF 15x12.
Many thanks

Hi
I bought a explorer xs a couple of months ago after selling my exp 2 last year ;;z
I bought the detech ultimate coil (13 inch) from crawfords on ebay, it worked out cheaper than direct from the shop (£125), these get good reveiws by people who have them, i had a sef 12x10 on the exp 2 and it was a goodun but the ultimate is a newer design and great for beach and pasture, look for reveiws on youtube
So i would get the ultimate first and the sef 12x10 second
Been itchin to get out and try it but im going through a house move :E

Normally the stock coil is very good I would certainly try it for awhile.

similar

Depends a lot where you detect. Noisy field equal smaller coil.

One persons recommendations for their fields might not be best for yours,

If you are after more ground coverage with a larger coil you lose a lot of sensitivity & the machines ability to "sort out targets". Bigger coil has more info coming in.

The Minelab PRO coil is probably the best they ever made!

Hi guys
Thanks to you all for the advice. I ended up going for the detech ultimate 13", I got it from Staffordshire metal detectors who are a great team to deal with.. they are always really helpful.
Haven't been out and about much but when I have I did manage to pull out a few hammy's and other bits and bobs..( The minelab se and the 13" ultimate seems to work well together).
Many thanks again for your help
Great forum
