Home made stand for detector
After getting my Nexus MP detector I was a bit concerned about its lack of waterproofing and did not fancy putting the battery box on the wet ground even with a cover on.So after a bit of thought I came up with this stand. Its made from a bicycle handlebar bracket, some aluminium tube and a couple of rubber end caps.I am sure that it will be suitable for most detectors with 22mm shafts.

Shame about the tiny pics, but we can see the general idea. It looks a neatly-made job. Could you tell us more about the bicycle handlebar clamp? I'm a keen cyclist, but I don't recognise a clamp like that. Maybe post a link to an online bike shop that sells the part? ( it looks more like one of those mountain-bike rear mudguard fittings, to clamp onto the seatpost )

Looks good, a full list of parts and a bigger pic would be handy

An interesting project but I was wondering, with any detector having a round tubular shaft, if a cheap air rifle bipod would be a quick solution to providing a better support stand to keep the back end clear of dirt and water?
Unfortunately my Quest Q40 has a square shaft but I may give a bipod a try for my MineLab Safari. Plenty of cheap air rifle bipods for sale on ebay, with a variety of fittings. I presently use a home made bungee and that keeps the machine up out of the muck whilst recovering a target.

Good point Badger!
And I just realized that my Safari shaft is the wrong shape and size for my idea.

Looks like you have some problem getting the pics correct ... I understand there's a Forum software issue at the moment, so I suggest waiting a couple of weeks and trying again. They can be 560 pixels wide ( I think..)
I've just had a quick look at some of the mudguards "crudguards" in my garage, and they might also be viable to hack into a similar stand. They have a round clamp, and rubber shim sheet is used to fit them to the seatpost correctly. Seatposts are typically 25mm - 32mm diameter, so mudguards may be a bit generous for a 7/8" (22.2mm) detector shaft.
I'd be inclined to change those wing nuts for regular ny-locs, I guess the thread will be some standard metric size, like 4mm.

Maybe guitar stands and guitar wall mounts would also be suitable?

Tried to enlarge it for you, but due to the resolution it's a bit fuzzy.
