Is it worth stepping up to a Remote?
Been considering getting the Remote. My main reason would be for faster and more accurate identification of coke and small pieces of lead. Wishful thinking or a worthwhile investment?
Your ideas and thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi mate, it was one of the things l thought about when getting my set up. Depends on you of course but l would not be without mine. I now have the v4 update so using the xy screen also using the
MI 6 pp so works on the remote once you turn the pp on you can search from the remote if you loose the pp to find it even if the pp is off. Also there are setting for the pp in the remote too.
You can switch between modes fast and that coke is a lot easier to see. For me sound is probley the most important thing, but if you add the numbers and display screen then you can have more information to decide if the target is worth digging.
Good luck l am sure there will be different opinions, this is just mine

The controller X-Y screen helps to eliminate coke as it shows by a distinct vertical central line.
I have a field contaminated with old steam engine coke and it does not bother me anymore.
Generalising.Bottom left to top right non ferrous,Dig it.
Bottom right to top left Ferrous, leave it.

Once you get one you will not be able to go back to not having one. Access to the expert settings, XY screen, ease of use and for updates. It is for you to weigh up if the cost is worth any advantage you will gain. They can be useful for giving extra information of targets in certain situations - such as identifying coke, though not 100%. If the ground is easy to dig you could just quickly dig all targets. Or If the coke always gives the same signature then you could just not dig those particular targets. Or a combination of the two.

Once I've set it up I tend to use the Deus as a tones machine and don't reference the numbers on the remote at all (then again, I'm lucky enough to be coke-free). However, the remote has valuable advantages as mentioned above and makes life considerably easier all round, especially when wishing to make adjustments or looking to see how the target reads on various programmes.
The Deus can be a switch-on-and-go machine or it can be a complex one and if you're a tinkerer I'd say the remote's a neccessity out in the field.

I have seen them on flee bay for around the £360 mark. Don't always believe the numbers on the remote though. I tend as others if it beeps dig it and just glance at the no s it only gets your hopes up and is usually a bit of lead. Beach wise a 86 though woz generally a old £1 coin though. As mentioned before it will open you up to more settings to play with and easy v4 and later up dates and m 16 probe access. If itll make u happy and give u more conference with the detector buy one your only here once .

Many thanks for all your comments. My Deus is on V4 so will pair to my MI-6, which I find really useful. If the Remote will help identify Coke but not Lead, then I'll stay with the 'Lite', as it has found two cut quarters in the few months I've used it along with many Hammered, Roman and more modern coins. I forget just how good the Deus is until I detect alongside friends with other machines. It's one hell of a piece of kit!

I have the remote and only ever use it for on the fly configuration in the field. The best thing I ever did was to stop looking at the remote, put it away and learn to use the Deus purely on tones. I know if I'm swinging over coke purely on sound and it didn't take too long to get there.
I too recommend the remote and would not be without it. Lead is a pain but probably that applies to all makes of detector; just wish there was some way to identify it before digging. The XY screen is pretty good at identifying coke if you assume about 90% accuracy (large wet pieces of coke will show a good diggable signal).
As I cannot differentiate the audible of coke versus coin I would like to see a demonstration where I am shown somebody correctly identifying coke purely on the sound it makes. Maybe there is such a demonstration on utube?

You'd surely still dig it, though?Chilgrove wrote: Tue Jan 23, 2018 12:58 pmLead is a pain but probably that applies to all makes of detector; just wish there was some way to identify it before digging.
Would I still dig it, if I knew it was lead? mmm, not sure about that. I suspect I would most likely not dig it. In the same way I don't dig iron when there is a good indication. In front of me just now, on my desk are three lead weights of indeterminate age but everything else of lead I find is just junk. And I find loads of it which eventually I will sell to a scrap merchant. Still a pain though!

Yep, the vast majority of the lead I dig is junk too, but every now and again there's a nice lead token, seal, or spindle whorl that I really wouldn't want to pass upChilgrove wrote: Tue Jan 23, 2018 1:50 pm Would I still dig it, if I knew it was lead? mmm, not sure about that. I detected with a Lite for the best part of a year before getting the remote. It's a good addition but not essential, and it does tempt you into fiddling around a lot when you should just be concentrating on the sounds and the ground.
It's worth having for some scenarios, I would say get one if you can afford it, but don't spend all day fiddling with it, set it up and then use your ears, refer back to the remote when you need to.

I wouldnt be without mine. Its so easy to get things just as you want them and much better than having to take phones off to change something. Having always had the remote I'm not sure what you can do with the phones but I'm fairly sure you cant keep an eye on GB without the remote.
The xy screen is great too.

In my own opinion I would not be without the remote. I bought the full kit with the WS4 earphones. Initially I was using the remote alone with the volume on just to get used to the different sounds produced by the different settings, now I have graduated to using the headphones as well. However, I would not really like to use the headphones alone. The xy screen or the oscilloscope screen to give its correct name is brilliant on the deep setting as other contributors have said. I regard the purchase of the remote as a must have item.
