I would say 7 is a good time.
However I may not be able to make it, a fortnight ago on my way to Walton on the Naze my car decided to break, (my friend and I did make it and do a day's detecting and we made it home(with the engine management light on and very low on power) I have had it repaired by a main dealer but it's just not been the same the last week, and over the last couple days it has been sounding worse, so I don't know if I want to risk the very long journey at that time of the morning. My car is a little old and tired, even though I look after it (take it to audi for all work) I drive my car hard.
So if it improves I'll come, if not, I hope you all have a great day and find lots of goodies, be sure to post them up and make me jealous.
Regards and gutted

Bad news about your car Adam. As I've never been to any meets before, can you advise who is going to be the ringleader if you can't make it? or is it a free for all, turn up and digAdam17 wrote: Thu Jan 18, 2018 1:17 pm I would say 7 is a good time.

Yeah essentially as you put it a free for all lol.
For me, It was going to be a case of turn up, get set up (I even went out and got a pair of waders which I was well excited about using) literally say hello, detect & dig. As the tide will already be right out at 7.23...
Then after its come back in around 1.40ish that's when i would of suggested lunch n chin wag, I mean anyone can stop when they want, but to make the most of the tide being out that's what I have done when I beach detect...
Just mulling it over, my break down only get me to the nearest garage and being a Saturday, and very far from home it makes me quite uncomfortable thinking I could be stuck anywhere between home and 100 miles having to lug all my detecting gear somewhereto wait for wife to pick me up or a train station to get home and then at some point have to make my way back to an unknown garage and collect my car... Ahh that's worrying...
I think I may have to give it a miss. So gutted....

Directions:-Take A 12 and turn of at the sign for Clacton (junction29)which feeds onto the A120 heading to Clacton. Then take A133 for Clacton. At the second roundabout bare left onto B 1033 for Frinton, passing through Weeley, Thorpe green, Thorpe le soken, Kirkby cross. Keep on the B 1033 as you get into the outskirts of Frinton, turning right over the railway crossing(an awful junction).Stay on the B 1033 and you will enter the high street. Don't turn left at the seafront sign as it takes the long way around. At the end of the high St (past cafe 19 on Google maps), you come to the seafront esplanade. Free parking all the way along the esplanade. Posh toilets virtually in front of you on the esplanade as you exit the high St .
I'll be parking just to the left there.hth.
Regards neil
So think its best we all meet up at 7ish at Neil's suggestion adjacent to the posh wc's?, that way we aren't all parking miles from each other.

Three of us made it to the low tide, you know who you are, and it was good to meet you.
Not a very productive morning, but informative all the same, as I now know what beach detecting is like.
I found 1p and lots of bottle caps and random pieces of metal caked in black tar or something similar.
I’m not sure if I’d return to Frinton to detect, but I’d be up for trying other beaches :-)

Hope you guys had a better day than me...
I thought I'd try my luck at my permission up the road from me...
I got stuck and needed saving, and the weather was so bad I didn't even get any detecting done. Very sad

Agree with all of the above, great getting out and meeting fellow detectorists even on a miserable day like today. Defo give Frinton a wide berth in future but up for another beach hunt in near futureBottlecapking wrote: Sat Jan 20, 2018 1:28 pm Three of us made it to the low tide, you know who you are, and it was good to meet you.

I was at frinton a couple of weeks ago, one of several people detecting the beach.
I found nothing but scrap. One of the local detectorists in his own words said “the beach had been hammered”. Most beaches probably would be the same so long after the summer season.
