Beach meet up 20th January

Post by Adam17 »

Hi all.

I'm sure I posted on here about a beach meet, but can't find it...

So I'll start again..

I have been organising a beach meet for minelab Owners and have also posted this on the MLO Forum.

The meet will be at Frinton beach Jan 20th.
Low tide is around 7.23
Parking is free I believe. Looking forward to meeting you all on the 20th.

Im going to aim to get there at about 7am
I hope this meet is better than Walton on the Naze was last Saturday, nout but rubbish...
Oh and a 20 year old 50p
My mate got a bullet casing though...

Catch you all soon
Warm regards

I was at Frinton-On-Sea for four hours from eight am last Saturday, along with about six or seven other detectorists. I found nothing but scrap, nor did anyone else I spoke to. I drove two hours to get there and despite not finding anything still enjoyed it as it was a bright day out by the sea.

Hope you have better luck than me.

I am sure that this is the first time its being mentioned that its a "Minlab owners meet up", the previous thread made no mention of this and certainly there were several others that expresed an interest in going that were NOT Minelab owners, additionally it was in the "Beach, Rivers" forum again indicating open to all.

Sorry Adam but I feel there is no need to try and make this "elitist" by restricting it to Minelab owners only. As shown in the past by the responses to certain rallies that have been machine specific this generates a lot of resentment.

For anybody that was thinking of going and does not have a Minelab I very strongly suggest that they still go; as Frinton is a Crown Estate beach EVERYBODY has an equal right to detect it irrespective of if using a cheap "Maplins special" or top of the range Minelab CTX or any where in between.

Even as a CTX owner it probably would be more fun to have a mix of machines to compare signals etc. I am yet to try beach detecting but there are none local to me.

Good luck to those going ::g

Sorry to disagree but "I have been organising a beach meet for minelab Owners and have also posted this on the MLO Forum." can only be taken to mean he was only intending it to be for Minelab owners only!.

I started a thread some time back suggesting beach meet ups as a lot of newbies were unable to get permissions and wanting people to buddy up with, but for various reasons (including established hands being worried about nighthawking after and a lot of permissions having been granted for the permission holder only (rather than them and mates) the vast bulk of these requests for buddys failed to get a positive response. By suggesting meet ups on the beach it meant that newbies could have some where to go and more importantly gain advice from experienced detectorists without any issues regarding permissions. This was meant to be all inclusive, as I said "Maplins special" up to a ctx and irrespective of a detectorists experience. Adams inital thread in "Beaches and water" happily followd on from these aims. However, this statement of "a beach meet for minelab Owners" is very much against what I was wanting. Especially as he is organising it on a PUBLIC CROWN ESTATE BEACH where EVERYBODY has equal rights to detect.

As I said above previous rallies restricted to a single barand have attracted lots of negative responses. We are all detectorists and enjoy the same fascinating hobby, trying to split people int "elitist" groups because they own one specific make can only be bad for the hobby as a whole.

Yes sorry, my mistake, this is open to all.
Evan bud. No need to throw your toys out the pram lol.

Just a wording error, nowhere does it state that those who don't own mine can attend lol...

Looking forward to meeting anyone who can attend, providing the resentment isn't over powering 😉 😉

Evan you are funny haha,,
Warm regards

So a little update from me...
I'd love to be there...
However I may not be able to make it, a fortnight ago on my way to Walton on the Naze my car decided to break, (my friend and I did make it and do a day's detecting and we made it home(with the engine management light on and very low on power) I have had it repaired by a main dealer but it's just not been the same the last week, and over the last couple days it has been sounding worse, so I don't know if I want to risk the very long journey at that time of the morning. My car is a little old and tired, even though I look after it (take it to audi for all work) I drive my car hard.

So if it improves I'll come, if not, I hope you all have a great day and find lots of goodies, be sure to post them up and make me jealous.

Regards and gutted

Hope you guys had a better day than me...

I thought I'd try my luck at my permission up the road from me...

I got stuck and needed saving, and the weather was so bad I didn't even get any detecting done. Very sad 😔 😢 😥
