Well that's just very cool much better than beating the coil to death...
And a very good idea. Does it effect the depth at all?
How about the handling / weight?
I see you have the 6", is it no good in the stubble?

I've been watching Aussie gold hunters recently ... and to a kangaroo, they all use coils the size of dustbin lids and miraculously pull out bits less than a gram!!

Love the programme too.
Their machines are basically PIs and they demonstrate perfectly the advantages and disadvantages of PIs i.e. extreme depth and extreme sensitivity to iron.

are they on youtube?
or tv?
on tv, but should be on youtube also ... imagine the scenario ..., the outback ... bigger than bet lynches ear rings ... and one turns up with a 6inch coil ... one would get laughed off the claim!!!
Note to self: who came up with the idea that one finds more with less???

We have a few permissions that have long stubble, so I made these on the laser cutter.
5mm ply soaked in boiled linseed oil to keep the water out.
Fitted to the 11 inch coil they work quite well parting the stubble enough to get lower.
I like it .. and had the same idea myself a few years ago ... maybe we should be asking the coil cover guys to incorporate the critical elements of your design... sadly they just want to sell us same old same old!!
