Have You Got The Bottle

Post by Westcoastdetector »

Afternoon All ,
I have been detecting for a few years now , but following a recent move , I find myself without any nice fields to detect on :(( . A few days ago I saw a nice old bottle lying in the hedge by the road and it got me thinking 8-| . Maybe a slight change of direction would do me good , and with that in mind I'm hoping to get into bottle digging ::g . I'm living near Ulverston in South Cumbria , and would love to meet up with like minded folk and explore the possibilities of getting permission to dig an old tip . Any thoughts / offers / tips would be gratefully received :D
P.s PM me if you'd rather :)

As you will need the owners permission on either pursuit, if bottles have captured your imagination then give it a go!

Maybe if you approach the landowner of the hedge and/or connecting land along with the bottle in your hand it may open up a door for you.

I would assume that with bottle digging you need to locate a likely dumping spot and dig a rather large whole to recover the crop?

If the bottle you found gets the interest of the landowner, then he may prefer that you just go metal detecting and make small holes that you will obviously backfill.

Post a photo of the bottle on your thread if you can - it's all history related so of interest to many of us I'm sure.

I'm too far away to offer you a buddy up, so the best of luck with what you decide to do.
Wandering off to the fields with my Makro Racer 2.

Although, I enjoyed the walk with my Bounty Hunter Tracker IV!

If I remember correctly there are a few great posts in the bottle digging section on the left menu. I’ll add a direct link (to this post) to one particularly good topic if I can rolocate it x;

EDIT: found it - some brilliant tips on here and some safety considerations too!
