Detecting In Scotland

Hi,

I’m off to tour Scotland in May and was wondering if it’s ok to detect the foreshore on the sea beaches up there. I see it’s not included on the crown foreshore map.
Also Am I right to assume l would need the landowners permission (very doubtful) to detect the foreshore of Lochs whilst there.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Tony visit the Crown Estate Scotland website for info regarding Crown Estate foreshore,

Crown Estate Scotland is a seperate entity from the Crown Estate but there is no problem with accessing their foreshore, finding out what they own is a different matter but on the whole you should have no issues with resonsible detecting on the foreshore. As for loch shores all freshwater loch shores will belong to the bordering landowner and permission will be required. Hope this helps and good luck when you come up.

I asked the same question last month and was pointed to the same link and told -
"No permits required for Scottish beaches just check there is no scheduled monument or buried power cable(one on my local beach) and your all good"

Shame about the lochs as I am staying at a loch side hotel (they own a bit of adjacent land so still hopeful!) but its logical that the loch "beaches" belong to the adjacent landowner.

Thanks Saffron and Hunter59 for your replies. It’s pretty much how I envisaged it to be but thought I would check anyway.
I’ll certainly look on the Crown Estate Scotland site as I didn’t realise there was a separate one to the English one.

I live on the west coast of Scotland on the Clyde Estuary just outside Glasgow.
