Hi all,
Apologies if this is an obvious question but i've trawled the forum and cannot find a clear answer.
I have recently started beach detecting and am using the purple patches on the crown foreshore map to ensure I don't break any rules. One issue i'm having though is that big patches are not marked in purple but I know that people are detecting on these areas currently so is it OK? For example Ferring beach is purple so OK to detect on but Worthing beach is not purple so presumably against the rules despite many Youtube videos of the place and regularly seeing detectorists there. It seems that a lot of the potentially good beaches are not purple and I cannot find anything on the local authority websites relating to dectecting.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Could be leased to the local council who grant permission...or the folk detecting it don`t care about rules.
Opinions expressed on MY posts are mine and NOT those of any democratic organisation I volunteer for.

Certain beaches the councils will allow you to metal detect on, the council allow metal detecting along countless miles of the Bournemouth beach, even though I think its not shown to be an allowed area on the Crown Estate map.

Freds advice above to use the search facility is one that I would strongly recommend to anybody before they post any question as most have been asked before (as an example I have certainly gained useful advice on a few beaches in the past).
However, if asking about beaches be aware that the responses although with good intention and often based on experience are not "official", also the situation can change over the years so take note of when the post was made (having said this the vast bulk are correct and still valid).
Although not so important at this time of year with the current weather if new to beach detecting in the summer months its accepted that you should only detect early morning and late evening rather than when the beaches are full of tourists in the day time.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll get trawling through the older posts!
