Miles o' sand no detector in hand!

Post by Resurgam »

Over recent months a number of folk have sent me pms asking if I still detected the sands at Talacre in Flint, North East Wales. The quick answer is 'yes' I do but ill health had laid me up for a short while and when I did get back to swinging the coil over familiar sand I saw little point in posting loads of the same old same old from WWII.

The last month has been an other thirty days that I was unable to get out and swing a coil over sand. My wife, God bless her, decided that I was due a well earned break and booked us a moth on the Costa Blanca. It's something of a long story but we arrive in Villajoyosa at 0200 hrs to discover that the address was correct but there was no holiday accommodation. We had been conned! Paid up front as well!!!

Outbound flight was delayed due to a cabin crew accident, accomodation was a big no no, return flight was cancelled whilst we were actually airside, the temporary 24 hr accommodation came without food, and we then had to switch from Liverpool to Manchester; just to ensure getting home.

So, I reckon a day on the sands at Talacre will be a most welcome and relaxing break. Should have booked a caravan there in the first place. 8-|

Stay safe, stay well, and happy hunting

Hi FRed, thanks for the welcome home. Still feeling quite drained but getting there slowly. I must confess that the sands over there look very inviting but despite having been over there on several better occasions I have never taken a metal detector with us.

Probably our last overseas holiday; the insurance company wanted £1600 to provide us with a month's holiday insurance for a couple with medical problems.

Hi resurgam
Read your post and felt gutted for you. So glad at least you're back safe and sound.
Have had similar experiences with bookings that turn out not what they should be so can empathise with that problem. Its a nightmare and you just dont believe people are out there doing it to other human beings - lets hope kharma comes around and delivers in full to them.
Air travel is another story eh - designed to stress you out from start to finish!!! Makes you wonder why we travel abroad at times.
Next time try a staycation down Devon way (moved here from Liverpool many years ago) . Detecting is good - beaches are productive - natives are friendly - lots of plough and pasture with many clubs that have guest invite digs if youre on holiday.
Enjoy the home turf for a while and good hunting for the future.

Often had minor problems overseas but this break beat them all and was a real tester of patience and long suffering. A bit like those morning after over indulging, I just can't help saying 'never again'! I-)

Likely to see you on "holidays from hell" or "24 hrs at A&E." ' hope the former only.
Take care
