Which tones?

Post by Easylife »

Do you find that your choice of tone settings respond to certain targets better than others? Like sometimes say 3 tones gives a better response to a particular target type whereas at other times full tones responds better?

I think the answer will be yes but the reason for it may be difficult to determine.

One such variable to consider, is operator hearing level. An audiologist would be better placed to add to the theory but I believe we all bear some subtle but telling difference in in the way we (our individual hearing system) interprets minute changes in our own audible frequency range. In effect, it could be that whilst subjected to a specific audible frequency, our individual hearing system may interpret the result slightly differently.

I should add that I'm not a multi-frequency 'user' due to the absence of some of the usual audible frequencies in my hearing ability. A pity really as I quite like the concept in a metal detector! Regards ss47

I will ask the missus-a metal detecting subject that might not cause automatic eye rolling
-she’s an audiologist ::g
She usually tells me to beep off-a good clear signal and a solid tone

I have been using 2 tones a lot lately, but I push the non ferrous tone to 702. Now every non ferrous target has a high clear pitch. I have found this very helpful.
