Does anyone search in 4khz?

I mostly search in 12 or even 18khz depending on site and dry ground. I've occasionally searched in 8 khz but not really noticed much difference, so wondered if any users regularly search in 4khz at all? I sometimes use a 4khz custom program to confirm iron targets but with the new XP X35 coils being introduced soon enabling a 4khz boost I was wondering how beneficial this could be if you are not say just hoard hunting as surely not many just hunt big deep targets and ignore the small thin silver coins? But the feature does add an extra option!
Apart from that - a big coil = more ground coverage, whilst a small coil = better target separation, so you really need both to cover situations. With my 11" and 9" HF coils I see no reason for change unless I wanted a 4khz boost!

I've never tryed 4khz , I have enough trouble finding normal stuff with the 8/12/18/28/72khz , with the 9/ 13/9elip hf coils ,went 3 months without finding a coin on 1 field...tryed 8 kHz for a long while as a mate woz getting good results with a different brand detector, to no real avail, i wont b bothering with the x35 coils, ive bunged enough money at it ......

I doubt frequency play much difference in finds rates. Unless you are looking for sub gram gold nuggets.

Cut half's are picked up just as well with a 4.8Khz machine as it does with a 18Khz machine

I do find a difference in coil size though.

I find more small stuff with a 8" and 5.75" coils than I do with a 10" and 12" coil. I have a feeling for me a 9" Would be a good compromise between sensitivity to small items and coverage.


But in your field your mileage might be different. Waving targets in font of the coil doesn't seem to correlate to what I actually find.

I try 4khz occasionally but ike you I tend to use 12 or 18khz.
The truth is I’m a detecting nut so I’m going to have the 11” X35 Coil, that will be five coils for one detector!

Try 4khz when the ground is wet. Worth trying on the boggy winter days.

Yeah, sort of, but we can only use one at a time unfortunately. But OMG if XP had multifrequency?
