After failing to sleep properly last night I eventually gave up and went down the beach to catch the low tide instead.
It was dry and looking good when I parked up so I was woefully underdressed for the rain when it appeared. Despite this it was pleasant enough out on the sand but my depradations of the past few months meant that signals in the black sand are now few and far between. What is left are mostly .177 airgun pellets which read 6 on the Nox and which I mostly ignore. The folly of this approach was nicely illustrated In the most heavily infected area when another 6 signal sounded a bit bigger than usual and revealed a 1.1gram 9ct gold St Christopher hallmarked for 1988. Bloody machine, just when you think that you're getting the hang of it.
PS At least the torrential rain means that I can't get on with all the outside jobs that I put off over the Summer because it was too hot.

Nice write up as always Fred and what comes across to me is that despite your love affair with the Nox, you still dig on ears and instinct - and successfully, rather than relying on the machine

Once you get used to it the Nox is so spot on with the IDs that it really doesn't matter. Besides my land permissions are mostly long term ones and I am a detectorist of the 'clear everything' variety. If it ever stops raining it will be a beach again this evening and again tomorrow morning to catch the long tides then back on land from Wednesday onwards. Might change if we get strong winds though.

i really dont understand why anyone would not dig all positive tones ?
well done on the gold
I generally do but I also occasionally exercise some common sense, but only when the situation absolutely demands it. In this case no point in digging endless airgun pellets when there is a great big beach out there waiting to throw big gold rings at me.
Do you think I will be able to detect small gold pickers with it?
I intend to use Equinox 800 in Bulgaria for crevasing for gold in the streams and for general detecting on the fields.
If it detects the small lead pellets it should detect the small gold too.

There are plenty of Youtube videos of people doing just that. I didn't 0even know that there was natural gold in Bulgaria!

Aw Fred. Excuses excuses. First it’s too hot, now it’s too wet. If you leave it much longer the mower won’t start ! (Another excuse)
Well done on the gold. What about a pic to make dribble
Soddit! Thought that I had posted it. rl; Now added!
