Mars MD Stem

Post by THE MOLE »

hi guys, not sure about other users but after a few hours i feel the s stem on the kruzer gets abit uncomfy ?, so was looking for ideas for a straight shaft.

i came across this but not sure how the control box housing would fasten to the stem especially as ive onlt seen pics of the mars stem. wondered if any one has any ideas ?

The kruzer head assembly is held on to the original S-shaft with only one crosshead bolt, visible if you turn the detector upside down. Remove that and the head can move on the shaft. You have to remove the twistlock clamp that sits just in front of the control head. If you hold the main body of the clamp you can unscrew the base of the clamp. This takes a little bit of fiddling, but you should be able to remove it without much trouble. Just watch, there's a plastic disc that comes loose after you remove the clamp, so don't lose it! I would post some pics but my kruzer is back at the dealers. (Sob!) I can't measure the diameter of the shaft, but basically, you can buy the same diameter aluminium tubing from the usual suspects, making sure to match the internal diameter. Drill a hole to match the clamp's plastic disc and a few holes for remounting the control box and the arm rest and you will have a straight shaft for literally just a few quid. Have a look on youtube for diy straight shaft for the Minelab excalibur and you will see the basic idea. Hope this helps

Found a pic of the dismantled twist lock. Should explain its removal better!

thanks for the reply mate, but its the collapsable part i'm interested in so i can get it in my little aygo without keep taking it to bits. but yes a straight shaft could possibly do away with the uncomfortness i feel after a few hours. food for thought ::g

Hi Neil, its just the s-bend section that you would be changing, you would still use the coil shaft and the middle shaft. Imagine stretching the s-shaft out straight. The detector would still be in 3 pieces when dismantled. I was going to change mine and will still do when I get it back. I'll post some pics when I get it done. ::g

hi jon, yeh i get the gist of the idea which is what i intended to do in the first place, but then came across the mars universal stem with the kruzer on it. which having a very small car also combats that problem of always taking it to bits or seats down then seats up drives me nuts lol.

the mars stem is quite expensive but if its ok and i ever sold the kruzer it would be ok for other tectors as long as i purchase a second mount that the control box sits on for the makro otherwise it renders the original stem useless
