Morning all,
Wouldn’t mind a bit of advice from more experienced deus users than me please!
I have been using the deus lite 4.1 for about 8 months now only with the 9” coil and am feeling that I am slowly but surely learning its nuances. I detect over pasture and cropped land mainly using Gary’s Hot on 12 kHz occasionally adjusting the discrim to 0 if the chatter on some ground is just getting too much.
So it’s not a case of “I want a bigger coil because I will find more” or “ I bet i’m not finding as much because I only have the 9”” as I believe the smaller coil is really good and I’ve got used to it. But am I limiting my finds and overall experience by only having one coil in my arsenal? And if I moved to a larger coil would i find myself making the 9” redundant? Basically, do I need t start saving up for my Christmas present to myself?!
Any tips and advice gratefully accepted!
Thanks in advance
Alexander
Moving on from the 9”....
I have 9"and HF elliptical coil. I am in your same situation about the field were I can detect. I didn't notice any difference in depth between the two, and most of the time the 9" is just redundant. But when the soil is really wet, I found that the 9" does better. On stubbles you can easily squeeze pass between them. However I am still not sure that the investment on the new HF coil it's a wise expense. After all 9" or HF if you pass on the target you will find it anyway.

I have all three normal coils and an elliptical Hf one and use all of them at some time or other.
The list below is not specific, just a rough guide to how I use them and something I chop and change about during the session.
Standard 9” for stubble
11” for soft stubble, pasture and drilled.
13x11 for pasture and drilled when there’s not to much rubbish in the ground.
9” Hf elliptical for in among iron and maize stubble. Not so much the frequency, more because of it’s shape.

The 9" coil whether LF or HF seems to give a sharper response to targets than the 11". It still gets good depth as well as giving good target separation, whereas the 11" should give more ground coverage. In reality you won't miss much with either coil.
