XP Deus V4.1 vs V5.x tests.

Post by Easylife »

I've just taken the plunge and acquired a MI-6 pinpointer. My Deus is running V4.1 and I've been completely happy with that but out of interest I thought I would pair the MI-6 just for the experience. Surprisingly there were no issues whatsoever with the MI-6 connectivity to my older 11" coil, but there were with my 9" round HF coil. With the HF coil there was sometimes up to a 5 second delay to re-connect to the coil after MI-6 use.
So knowing that there have been further updates in attempt to resolve MI-6 connectivity and X35 instability issues and with rumours that V5 updates were dumbed down I did some comparison air tests of V4.1, V5.1 & V5.2 under the very same conditions to provide just a relative comparison for my own interest, your own results and experience may be quite different of course.
I used "Basic 1" for no reason other than it uses a mid frequency of 12khz as standard. Tests were done at 12khz on the 11" coil, and in 14khz & 28khz on the 9" HF round coil. The test targets were small gold and silver of 10mm or less, a silver hammered penny, a lead musket ball & a Vicky penny, a suitable range as there's no need to go to town on this. In V4.1 the targets were about equal over all three frequencies apart from the small gold as to be expected.
I skipped V5.0 and updated to V5.1. Compared to V4.1 my test results showed V5.1 to give concerningly less depth on the 11" coil & the HF coil in 14khz, but in 28khz the results were about equal to V4.1.
I then updated to V5.2, same test, and the depth noticably improved on the 11" coil in 12khz & the HF in 14khz to about a mid point between V4.1 & V5.1 results. In V5.2 for some unknown reason XP have shifted the HF mid frequency from 28.8khz to 31.3khz, results in this higher frequency showed 30% less depth compared to V4.1.
So as to ensure consistency I then re-installed V4.1 and repeated the tests, all results were within 1/2" of the first V4.1 test. The tones in V5.1 & V5.2 seemed quite harsh to me. Make of it what you will, this was purely my own experience and others may of course have quite different results. The V5 updates were mainly aimed at resolving the MI-6 connectivity and X35 instability issues. I don't own a X35 coil but both V5.1 & V5.2 did seem to cure my MI-6 and HF coil connectivity issue. Regardless, the V5 upgrades did not suit me personally so I am now back on V4.1 and can live with the occasional iffy MI-6/HF coil connection. How are other Deus users finding the V5 software with the above coils? I have no interest in the X35 coil. x;

Thanks easylife. I wish I hadn’t bought my x35 coil as then I would happily stay at 4.1. I think the reduced results on the air tests is the cause of my losing signals once a spade of earth comes out of the ground.

It only happened once yesterday using standard 11” coil in v5.2. Good signal, dug a six inch deep hole waved the detector over the spoils then the hole, silence. I got down with the pinpointed which gave a solid signal so retrieved what turned out to be the center of a shottie. I waved that over my coil, strong signal, then dropped it in the bottom of what was now a seven to eight inch deep hole and waved my coil over it and again silence,It could not detect it. I was a bit disappointed but thought maybe I was expecting too much.

Like I said this only happened once yesterday so it did not frustrate me but on a preavious dig running 5.2b3 it was practically every other signal, my detector had no problem finding things in the ground but once you took a spade out and put a bit of daylight between the target and the detector it lost the signal.

Possibly, though quite normal on very small targets. But you know how it was before. ::g

Thanks Easylife for the comparison tests. I have an 11" and a 9" HF coil, plus Mi6 pointer. I currently use v 4.1 and was considering changing to the recent update, but won't after you mailing. I don't seem to have any time delay when turning the pointer off and on by the way, even when using the HF coil.

In reality if there's any delay it wouldn't really be an issue as I'd be filling the hole back in so probably wouldn't even notice it. :D

If this is happening try pairing the pinpointer to the machine again and it should solve it. I never had a problem with it reconnecting on 4.1 and indeed still don’t.

Informative test, thankyou.
I'm also on v4.1 with the 11 inch,the hf elliptical and the mI-6.
I have had no issues with v4.1 at all and the more I read the less likely I am to upgrade to any version of 5 until all the problems have been resolved.
