I have just got an XP lite, no control box as yet, and running it from the headphone module which has the same programmes as are on the (very pricey) remote. I've been told that the remote isn't necessary until you've mastered the basic programmes which can then be tweaked to suit conditions. Messing around with the fine tuning can cause a myriad of problems until you know what you're doing. Other people who have had a remote say they've found it easier to dispense with it altogether, and are quite happy with their finds using the standard programmes. The main advantage of the remote is that it gives you a visual, whereas the module is generally attached to your headphones and cannot.
There is an XP accessory available which will allow you to attach the module to the detector and forsake the headphones, but without audio I don't really see the point, (unless there's a way round that without the remote)
I guess it just comes down to how enthusiastic you are in terms of fine tuning and what you're targeting and how experienced you are.
XP Deus with no controller - options
Running on 5.2 gives the "lite" owner pretty much more tuning options. If you have the WS4 you can indeed buy several tools to fix the module on your shaft or wrist or neck.Clarky wrote: Tue Oct 23, 2018 8:49 pm I have just got an XP lite, no control box as yet, and running it from the headphone module which has the same programmes as are on the (very pricey) remote. I myself also do own a lite and wear the WS4 on my neck, connected with the XP blue backphones.
So I am able to adjust settings on de module with more ease than using it as a part of the headphones.
I've split your posts into a new topic as this is an interesting discussion best given its own threadClarky wrote: Thu Nov 01, 2018 12:45 pm Thanks for the reply, I'm still very much a novice with the XP and as i don't have the remote (yet) am all ears!

One of the guys I regularly see on dig wear his ws4 on his wrist with wired headphones and threads the headphone wires up his sleeve. You have to buy the headphone adapter aswell as the wrist strap to do this.

I have a lite without the remote, just using the ws4 earphones. Quite a few videos show the detectorist setting up the programme on the remote then putting it in a pocket and just relying on the tones to dig targets. You can alter programmes using the 'puck' and save them into a spare slot if you wish. So, I just dig by tones. I have, from time to time looked at the puck to see the numbers on it, but found that a bit confusing as some rubbish gives the same or similar numbers as viable targets, so ended up digging the target anyway. Now i'm getting used to the tones I dig very little rubbish (Apart from in one of my fields that must be the silver paper capital of Britain). The wind rattles across some of my permissions, so for the winter I've got the clip attachment for the puck and will use full cup over ear headphones with the puck in a pocket and headphone wire running down a sleeve, Keep the old ears warm and stop getting wind induced earache. Good Luck. Love my Deus.

I use the lite with the ws4 receiver in a waterproof bag around my neck (the ones that allow you to go into the sea with your mobile phone). I have some good quality in-ear pieces which are very comfortable. Works for me.

I don't believe you are really losing out by not seeing the numbers on a control box.
I have one but very rarely look to see what numbers a target gives, it's really just used to select or adjust programs and spends most of the time in my pocket if it's raining. (The deus is really all about the tones anyway)
I also have the WS4 module in a pouch round my neck and plug the blue xp phones into it, as they fit better on my ears to cut down wind noise, are very light, and fit much better under a hat. ( and are only a tenner to replace if I get water in them.)
Hope this helps
