I have the same problem gave Regtons a call and was told that wires are not covered under the five year warranty and the repair would be £50 + with postage £7 extra I guess the prices quoted will be plus vat but was annoyed that wires were not included under the warranty and forgot to askkingcoil wrote: Mon Nov 19, 2018 10:57 pm Probably a broken wire in the headband if they are in the warranty period ( five years ) then a free repair![]()

I am not saying £50 is a lot of money for somebody to look at them find the fault and do the repair but i think they should come clean and make it clear what the 5 years parts and labour warranty covers at purchase and not when you get a fault like this one which seems a common fault with the ws5 headphones

They also told me that when my Deus charging lead failed, I told them it had been iffy from new so had a manufacturing defect. They examined it, agreed the fault and simply replaced it for free.knotalot wrote: Sun Jan 06, 2019 10:49 pm I have the same problem gave Regtons a call and was told that wires are not covered under the five year warranty.
Wires can often get pulled so I guess it just depends on what the actual cause of the fault is. But yes, it is disappointing that cables aren't covered - not sure how that really works with consumer law though.

Mine have broke four times ... its become an annual event, and each time its been fixed by Regtons under the warranty (think that I hold some sort of record, and was explained to me as "Bad luck"), Promptly fixed no questions asked. As far as I know "Warranty" covers the whole kit and kaboodle, otherwise why bother having one?kingcoil wrote: Mon Nov 19, 2018 10:57 pm Probably a broken wire in the headband if they are in the warranty period ( five years ) then a free repair![]()

"BAD LUCK" your a lucky a man i was told the only way i was lucky was that they had reduced their price for the fix from £70+ to £50 +oldartefact wrote: Sun Jan 06, 2019 11:41 pmMine have broke four times ... its become an annual event, and each time its been fixed by Regtons under the warranty (think that I hold some sort of record, and was explained to me as "Bad luck"), Promptly fixed no questions asked. £320 head phones 4 years = only £80 a year guess i should just write them off (they would like) and stop being a nuisance to regtons or deus after all they only stand me in @ a little over £1.50 or so a week since i had them and be grateful for the finds me and my mate have found like lead, shotties, buttons etc which you could have found with any other detector if you were lucky enough to walk over them since spending £1500 for two deus lites one with ws4 and the other with the faulty ws5 with the broken wire
ws4 if you must
WS5 NEVER IMHO
live and learn

My ws5 s went through a spell on on event of only producing through one side !!! Maybe I've got the lose / broken wire syndrome to come ....I only used them 12 times last yr out of 78 outings so who knows...they are now literally 4yrs old .. happy days...the xp pinpointer holder has now been tieraps and glued back together as couldn't b bothered for a £15 item the postage would of prob been a £5 er only started using that holder when the g one gave up ( now fixed with a m6 bolt ) I've had issues with hf coil..and 9" black coil went back after a month ...good old xp

If they are under a year old they should be covered under the Consumer rights legislation
They have three options
Repair
Replace
Return your money
If they are under a 5 year guarantee check the small print, if wire repair is not mentioned and they don't honour the above, they are in breach of contract, and in the spirit of the guarantee as there are no moving parts they should be expected to last at least three years without issues
Worst case scenario small claims court on line, it worked for me with Tesco for a TV after two years, only cost me £25 and I got that back too

I guess the question is are the wires fit for purpose ... there is an irony in that the Brilliant wireless kit is seriously let down by ... you guessed it ... wires! Maybe they should put a radio receiver in each ear cup ... cant be that difficult, and then wireless would really mean wireless.

It does really stink!!!
My WS5 are now 6 years old. I have had to replace, the LCD screen, the touch button pad, the battery and the ear muffs, luckily, I am able to do all that work myself and I obtained the parts directly from an XP dealer in France. Now, some two years ago when the WS5 was still under warranty, I also experienced the dreaded "intermittent sound loss on one speaker" due to a broken wire (this happens because of the por quality of the cable used), so I contacted Deteknicks, the retailer I got them from who said they would return them to Regton to be repaired under warranty only to be told that the wire was not covered. I could not accept that so I wrote to this letter to XP France:

Dear Sir,
I am writing to let you know that many detectorists who bought the WS5 headphones here in UK about two to three years ago, are now experiencing a problem with an intermittent broken sound on one of the speakers. The problem seems to be the two core cable used to connect the two caps along the headband.
I bought my WS5 just over three years ago from the approved XP dealer Detecnicks Ltd. I contacted them to let them know about the problem and they asked me to return the phones to be repaired under warranty but I later had a telephone call from Regton Ltd.
to inform me that the "wire" is not covered and I would have to pay for a full replacement headband.
Detecnicks told me that they did not know anything about this and they had sent many of these phones back before which were always repaired under warranty free of charge. So what has changed and why? It clearly appears to be an unsuitable type of cable used which is going to fail many times and the full manufacturer's guarantee should apply to all the parts and not just the electronics.
Detecnicks, in my case, have paid for the repair but there are very many other people (I know of 5 just in my Metal Detecting Club alone) with the same problem who have bought from other sources and will be wanting some answers.
Kind regards
Tony
AND THIS IS WHAT XP FRANCE REPLIED:
Dear Tony,
You’re right, in that case, the repair is normally covered by the warranty. We have solved this problem now at XP with the WS5.
With our apologizes.
Would you please contact Marcus at Regton who is in copy of this email ?
Thank you very much.

Not sure how to assimilate all this, because as previously mentioned my headphones have been repaired for free... four times, due to broken wires. All I can assume is that the repair policy has changed. Also the warranty would have to specify where it doesnt apply, failing which the warranty would apply to the whole kit. Given that the wires are known to easily fail, when in proper use, I do not understand why the warranty wouldnt apply to all wire failures.
I must admit, when the phones first failed, and they told me it was down to wires, I felt short changed, since I genuinely thought that I had purchased wireless phones, I would add that I have received no advice how to prevent wire failures, nor have the suppliers ever suggested that I was using the phones incorrectly... meaning that I have assumed that its an inherent design fault.

From OP Returned the headphones to Regtons as suggested with receipt of purchase, also sent cheque for seven pounds to cover return postage. Headphones repaired and cheque returned.
