Ive solved the mystery of the chopped cases. They were sawn off as the scrap dealer would not buy the cap end. usualy 20mm ones as there was a lot of brass in them. ::g
One pound coins for 2012 so far = 180! 2013 =6

A good theory but one that is not likely to be true. Many of the cut up ones were found with metal 'sleeves' inserted in them, some have holes drilled through, others have the blast cap taken out, and some are the top end of the cartridge, not the base. If that wasn't enough to show that they were being used in trench art projects, why chop the end of the cartridge off when you simply have to pry out the blast cap ?
