hi cornwall, you may struggle with any detector in a situation like that, one i use a lot is a 25 year old silver turtle, based on the old silver sabre plus. we use suction dredges and panning gear in places like that. i live quite close to you, if you dont have any luck pm me. cheers charlie

The water may not be that deep anymore I went past the stream a bit further up from the spring head the other day and it was only six inches deep but the spring head will be a little deeper. The water trickles out of a chalky face at one end of the pool and the water collects in to pool it looks a bit like a swimming pool about 4 m wide and 15 m long it looks like a lagoon . I don't thing there is that much sediment as in places you can see the chalky bottom on the bed of the spring and the water is crystal clear you can see the chalk bed glowing up at you . And the stream bed coming out of the pool also does not have a lot of sediment and a chalky bottom as the water there is quite fast mflowing so if I struggle in the spring pool it's self I may detect the stream leading from the spring pool.its just such I prime location right next to a roman villa and bath house and Bronze Age barrow I have found roman saxon Iron Age and medieval stuff all around the spring pool I would be stupid not to at least give it a go . The dreamer in me is thinking of the numerous offerings made to the god over the years that I will find . If you want to see photos of me detecting the spring and what I find look on my twitter feed @DetectorsDiary I may find nothing , you have to speculate to accumulate
