Just thought I'd share my settings from today, as I was using full tones on pasture but tweaked the Deus to get good depth.
I have been using 2 tones lately, as I felt that I was getting better signal clarity that way, but I just couldn't get on with it at all on my last trip so I selected Gary's HOT (reactivity 3 as normal)
and everything seemed just right except the higher reactivity was limiting the depth I could achieve so today I lowered the reactivity to 2 (silencer 0), and this was better, but with the audio response at 4, deeper targets still sounded fairly shallow. What I did was drop it to 2 and this gave the deeper signals a softer, quieter sound. With the reactivity set lower I was soon digging out coins and buttons up to about 9 inches, even small bits of lead were coming out at good depths including the faintest gnat's fart of a signal, which turned out to be a .22 bullet head at about 5 inches.
It seemed like the best of both worlds, getting a good mental picture of the site and good depth. I had the discrimination on 1, as this cut out a lot of the spitting and made it a lot easier to hear the whispery, deep targets although I've found before that discrimination at zero can give a bit more depth still.
Settings were:
Full tones
Discrimination 1
Reactivity 2,
silencer 0
Sensitivity 85 (due to pylons) TX power 2
Audio response 2
Ground 88
Site was nice, wet, heavy soil pasture.
I'd recently said that I wasn't convinced that full tones was the best option for deeper finds but after playing around a bit with things today, I found that the above settings gave the best performance on my site.
Cheers, Ollie
