Hi All, I have also had problems with my 11inch Coil recently. (sorry this is a bit long winded, jump to the last bit if short on time!).
Over the last two months my 11inch coil has been behaving oddly. Loads of background noise and chatter, even on previously quiet areas. I’ve have had my Deus 10 months, so have gained a feel for what was ‘normal’, this was no way near normal.
On Club digs, I asked fellow Deus users if their machines were behaving ok, none of them were acting odd like mine, it was cold, but no hard frost. Basic 1 seemed worse, but on other occasions Progs 2, and 3 were noisy. Detecting was no-longer a pleasure.
Reading this Forum (thanks everyone), and speaking to fellow Detectorist, helped me to eliminate all factors. Calibration looked to be ok at start-up (keeping the Coil away from everything), GB was left in Manual mode at 90, sensitivity was turned down to 80(even though some I had spoken to were ok with higher settings), re-starting in the field, no Mobile on, no overhead wires, telephone masts, or steel toe-caps!
Coil cover was removed, and everything cleaned, then connected to PC, and Version 3.2 re-loaded (this was real easy), wiping the slate clean (along with additional Progs that had been put in).
Turning on inside the house seemed fine, quiet, and reacting normally to sample targets. Into the garden, all fine, nice and quiet with the normal behavior, progs 1, 2, and 3 all ok. Then the background noise, and chatter started up again!
Tested with WS4 Headphones only, then controller only, still got the problem, it seemed to follow the Coil.
So, I took it back inside the house, and the chatter died away, and all seemed ok again. So I’m thinking temperature related, 4.5 deg C outside, cold but not frosty.
Final test was sitting the (warm)machine outside, in a quiet spot, and put the WS4 headphones just inside the window......after about six minutes, at 5 deg C.........the chatter started to sound out through the headphones (as the Coil got colder). This can’t be normal?
I have been very pleased with the machine till now, and I must admit to being a bit gutted.
I phoned Mick at Leisure Promotions in Newbury, and took the 80 mile round trip on Saturday, to show him the problem, to get it sorted.
The Coil has now been sent to Regtons to be looked at, and I’m waiting to hear from them. I was told it would be sorted, and delivered back to me by the weekend.........fingers crossed.
Thanks again for all the help on the Forum
Nick
