You did absolutely the right thing here. Whatever the farmers antagonisms at whatever time of year and however inconvenient to him never ignore the potential threat of HE. I cant quite understand his attitude here, especially as it seems to have upset you at the time, however as a few weeks have passed Im sure its all been resolved. You seem a very considerate person in relation to your later discovery of the farmers ill health issues....however perhaps he should consider the inconvenience as opposed to the possibility that you have single handedly removed the potential for him or one of his employees to experience High Explosive and its potential tendency to offload a few ounces of rather nasty edged shrapnel up their posteriors......Keep up the good work and never ever consider giving up this fantastic hobby based on the occasionally experienced negative opinions or actions of others.... carry on and enjoy it.....Jules

I hate to reserrect this thread again - sorry - but just to say thanks Jules for your post and concerns and to let you know that the Farmer and I are on far better terms now - he really is a Gent - I just did not know how ill he is and he did not know my circumstances at the time ( my husband died very suddenly last Oct) so am still very emotional at times.
Have just recently given him a bottle of his favourite tipple ( Whisky) as a thank you for letting me detect on his land ( advised by other forum members - very good tip and advice) he brought along his wife to meet me also - she is absolutely lovely - and it turns out they know someone really well that I work with (small world eh
)
I met him again last week - and he asked if I had been detecting again and I said "no" as I thought once the rapeseed was in and growing - he did not want me to - he replied by saying that there was a very stony area at the end of the fields that I could still detect on ( whoopee ) so I went last Sunday for an hour and unearthed a Victorian bun penny - but not in very good condition unfortunately!
Walked past fields yesterday and to my dismay - saw tractor out ploughing area that he said I could detect on - so I am not sure what to do - the tractor was ploughing around the edge of the fields seeded with rapeseed - I am right or wrong in thinking - that they could be doing this to stop grass growing into the rapeseed????
Will have to pluck up courage and ring Farmer to find out - but hate to bother him!
Any suggestions from anyone???
Thanks again Jules.
Lolly

You did the right thing - trust everything will calm down back to normal - understand how it feel to be a guest on someone elses property. Keep us posted....
Am sure the farmer would be more upset if he drove over a live genade - you might have just saved his life!
