Buddy up Halifax

Post by HepworthHunter »

Hi All

Looking for a buddy up in the lightcliffe, Halifax bradford area got my own car so don't mind traveling but not 2 Far as time is limited. I am 28 year old, it would be nice to make a Friend interested in the hobby as most of my friend and family are not interested in this great hobby. I Enjoy laugh and a beer. Nothing better for me than a couple of cans in the bag and going on a hunt.
I have got a couple of farm pasture permission never ask permission to bring a friend but hope they wouldnt mind. I don't have any ploughed land but would love to have ago. I am new to the hobby couple of mouth in most finding old copper coin but love finding them. I don't know what am doing wrong but yet to find a silver coin.

Many thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Ref Silver coins, you`re not doing anything wrong, probably not as common as you think.
% of Silver coins lost is probably tiny but because they are posted on here, sometimes feels like everyone except you, is finding them. The reality is most people don`t say how many other metal targets have been dug, so a lot of people come into detecting thinking Silver and Gold finds are common.
Firstly you have to walk over something to find it, must have been lost in the first place and someone must have been there to lose it. Have only ever found 2 Silver coins but only done around 200hrs inland detecting, as I live on the coast and there are miles of beach to detect.
The thing is patience, as long as you are getting signals, that is the main thing and if you do eventually get a Silver, then that is a bonus. The good news is that because you have already found copper coins, it shows people activity there, either passing through or working the land or congregating for an event. Could be they did not lose any silver coins or maybe they did, this is where you put the hours in. The more area you search in detail, the more you will know. There are probably lots of people on here who have not found Silver.
The main thing is to enjoy the hobby.
Good luck with finding a buddy.
Cheers ::g
Dave.

Hi Dave thanks for your reply.

I was thinking exactly the same. For me in the weather we have been having it not a waste of time just digging beer cans. Might not say that when It wet and cold ha ha. I will keep going and am sure one day I will find a sliver coin. The long it takes the more sweet it will be.

I think I have been very lucky so far in my metal detecting adventure my first time out I found a 1899 coin spill and what I think was a blank cartwheel penny.

Many thanks Chris

A mate of mine - colgoldlyn77 - comes on here sometimes. He lives in that neck of the woods IIRC.
