New to the Deus Lite.

Post by namrepap321 »

I've been detecting for some years now, and suddenly my AT Pro started to feel heavier. Because of arthritis, my arms started to pain me, so I took the plunge and recently bought a Deus Lite. This was obviously because of it's portability and lack of weight. I was immediately really amazed at this machine and after a few quick spins with it was hooked. BUT I am finding the user's manual hard to understand. I am of normal intelligence, but can become very confused with detectors sometimes. I know that after using a new machine, the user will get used to it eventually.
Do you have to ground balance before using any of the factory programmes or do you just choose the one you want then away you go? I've watched umpteen youtube films on the Deus, but to me they don't give much away. Apart from the cost, the reason I never bought the full Deus is because it just scares me to death. Then people talk about changing the disc, the sens, what frequency etc! Full tones etc? What are the best tones to use? Maybe it's because I am impatient and want results straight away.
Do I just stick to the set progs? People said the AT Pro worked on wet sand, I could never get it to work on the wet sand. They say the deus will work on the wet sand too? I want to use the Deus mainly on dry sand and meadows etc really though. I am sorry to pick your brains, but will be glad of any help anyone can give me, thank you.

wow and welcome to the forum
You have certainly came in on a mission
I am expecting a lot of our Deus users to comment here, but keep in mind, you have asked many questions, so you are going to have to do a bit of work with the answers and collate them in a readable form

Hi namrepap321, Firstly as a new user the ground balance will be fine at the pre-set 90. The standard programs are very good and I would suggest you try program 2 - GMP. Don't worry too much about changing any settings as they generally only have a small effect overall. I have only used my Deus on wet sand once and it worked great but I was only using my preferred standard "Dry sand" program, the "Wet sand" program seemed to dumb it down for me. On land just stick it in standard program 2 - GMP and get used to it, it will find lots. Best of luck. ::g

It’s simple - stick with the standard programmes and on non beach permissions do not mess with anything.
You do not need to ground balance unless you are in highly mineralised soil. I never touched anything at all on any of the programmes I tried for almost a year. Now I know it well enough to do a bit of tweaking but it’s very little. They have spent a fortune getting some really good pre-sets so steal their time and effort and don’t waste your own!

Never used it on the beach so I can’t help you there at all i’m afraid :)

It’s easy. Just get your set up right for your height and learn to be able to swing it balanced on 2 fingers. Then you won’t get arm fatigue. One of Gary’s videos shows you how to do it. Sorry I haven’t time to work out which one but I think it might be this one (hope so x; )

Good luck - remember no question is too silly so ask away ::g

namrepap321. Like you I have started suffering age related joint pain, so also recently invested in a Deus light. I have used it for about 50 hours now, and have stuck to the factory programme 2, the GMP one. It's been brilliant, found loads and I can detect for much longer without fatigue now.

If you get some one to update to v5 for the coil and headset you have more to play with on the light in the menu ::g
