XP Deus Hoard finding tips please!
XP Deus Hoard finding tips please!
Evening All,
Been given permission to do a couple of small fields (pasture) quite near where a good hoard has been found albeit a few decades ago.
Any tips on what the Deus might sound like if lightning were to strike twice??!!
All the B and Ta in A,
Alexander

Usually it's the loose ones that lead to the broken pot. But for a large deep target 4 khz would be best with all setting set for max depth. It's my dream too.

I found a lot of William III - George III coins in an adjoining field with another virgin field to do tomorrow - nothing later surprisingly - all quite deep in thick untouched sandy pasture - I was running on 12khz - would you def lower to 8 or 4khz in case the roman stuff is settled deeper?

If you can find it dig out Gary's old video of him doing his hoard tests, or his deep target vids.

Finding a second hoard near to the find site of the first, is not uncommon. It's known that coinage of silver or bronze were not routinely buried in the same container but buried separately often fairly close by. This leads to the assumption that there was an understanding of the long term damaging effects produced by Electrolytic corrosion when co-locating different metals.
So lightening may well strike twice. I hesitate to say ' stay positive'

A disservice is no service at all.
Not initially, depends how clean the ground is. Great if there's no modern stuff to dig. I have a similar pasture except it disappointingly also contains green waste though has produced some Roman, Saxon & Medieval finds.HolzHammer wrote: Fri Aug 17, 2018 10:24 pmThanks Easy,Easylife wrote: Fri Aug 17, 2018 10:14 pm Usually it's the loose ones that lead to the broken pot. I'd personally use a "Hot" or "Deep" based program, probably both but each to their own. It just depends how the ground is really and the type of finds.
Just remember a hoard of Roman bronze coins can sound like deep iron.
Thats my tip

All my potential coin hoards so far have actually been a plough tip.Oxgirl36 wrote: Fri Aug 17, 2018 10:59 pm Just remember a hoard of Roman bronze coins can sound like deep iron.

The point here is you never know what may come up next. One of my farms is on high ground in a large village that l have been researching and writing about for over 8 years. I have found Roman in lower areas and could see the possibility of them moving through this area,so my goal here was to prove that. In 6 months many items and cois have come up but nothing older than 1600's. not put off l pushed on and very unexpectedly up came a gold stater 45-10 bc... since then the ground has been hard due to the weather so l have stopped until l have the right conditions to look for more if they are there ? As for a hoard you never know. I use Deus hot in 12 kHz as a general rule but will lower that to check. Good luck and keep it low and slow
