13" X35 Coil Trial - Some Great Denarii Finds

Post by Fisher1266X »

We decided to add two 13" X35 coils to our equipment list, mainly to replace the already proven original 13" x 11" coils which we've had for several years.

The first signal was a denarius of Vespasian, with six other denarii to follow being recovered from different permissions. A dozen Roman bronze coins were also recovered along with a silver ring which looks to be C17th. An Iron Age toggle fastener (a type we've never recovered before) also came up.

We found that the new coil and V5.1 to be perfect on the sites we chose to survey.
Two of these sites were brand new permissions so confidence was running high with the new coil performance.

Here are a few of the finds recovered:

We're looking forward to further trials in the next few weeks.....

Great finds, i hopefully may have a little spare cash next month to buy the new 13x11 coil.
You did not say which frequency you were using when you made these finds.

Sorry Chip, we used the 16kHz frequency in the GMP mode.
I'll post up a more detailed report in due course so hopefully these initial findings will create confidence in the performance of this particular coil.
We're impressed with the sharper response, the depth and it's ability to pick out tiny targets with ease.
We also recovered two cut-halves that both gave superb signals.

I haven't posted for a while as we've been busy for the last two weeks doing all sorts of things relating to detecting which will emerge in due course.

Do you think the normal 13” coils wouldn’t have found them?
I have the 9, 11, 13 eliptical and the HF eliptical and when using the Hf coil in 14khz it’s about the same as all of the others running 18 or 12khz.

I have no doubt that the original 13" coil would have found these targets as we've found cut-quarters with them.
The X35 has more options, so with this coil and the others, we have a great back-up for all occasions. You have some great coils already that are very capable ::g

I’m pretty sure it’s Vespasian but I’m no expert.

It would of been novel for one of u to run the old 13 " and one run the new x35 just to see if the older one would of got them anyway...have they moved the coil mounting lug slightly forward or is it in the same position as the old one ?.. nice coins and good luck ::g

We have full confidence in the original 13" coil and it would have certainly found these without a doubt. Please don't worry about depth and machine performance, if you can't hear it.... it isn't there :D

I'm not sure about the lug positioning as I always use a harness in any case.

Thank you ::g

I ordered one of these coils today, Will be using it on pasture on Sunday. Hopefully it does not make the deus feel too nose heavy.

Hi Chip, I tend to use a harness when using the 13" coils. Mind you, when changing back to the 9" coil and feeling lazy, I leave the harness attached which makes it feel like there's no coil attached =)) =)) =))
