Euroace & Ace 250 coil/air tests.

I have just got my Euroace and a new NEL Tornado coil so I thought I would play around and try a few air tests to see what difference the different coils made on both the Euroace and my wife's Ace 250
Please bare in mind that these "tests" were just for my benefit and not conducted scientifically. The coins used were as follows: A Victrorian silver 3 penny piece - A George lll silver shilling. A Victorian Half Crown.
I started with the Ace 250 with it's standard (9 x 6.5) coil and the results were as follows.
Silver 3d = 5.5 inches...............Silver Shilling 6.5 inches................Half Crown 7.5 inches
I then fitted the standard (28 x 22 cm) coil from my Euroace on to the Ace 250 and tried the same test again and the results were as follows.
Silver 3d = 6.25 inches............Silver Shilling = 8 inches....................Half Crown = 10 inches - This offers a slight advantage in depth for the wife when she is out using her Ace 250.
I then went over to my Euroace with the standard 28 x 22 cm coil and the results were as follows.
Silver 3d = 6.5 inches..............Silver Shilling = 7.5 inches.................Half Crown - 9 inches.
I then fitted the NEL Tornado Coil to the Euroace and tried the same air tests again, here are the results.
Silver 3d = 8 inches.................Silver Shilling = 9 inches....................Half Crown - 10 inches
To conclude the test I tried the same air tests with the same coins using my CS5MX - Here are the results.
Silver 3d = 6 inches.................Silver Shilling = 7.5 inches..................Half Crown = 8 inches

As stated these tests were not "scientifically controlled" so if you try them to might get slightly different results.

While these tests might not be that conclusive it does tend to show that the larger the coil fitted to either the Garrett 250 and the Euroace the more depth I was likely to get. Having said that though there is still a lot I have to learn about using the Euroace and it's signals when "swinging my coil" out in the field.
