Style of head/earphones - recommendations

Post by ubdai66 »

What is the most popular or recommended style of head/ear phones to use whilst detecting.
Over the ear
On the ear
In the ear.

The second part of this is should I go for a wired or Bluetooth solution. I've seen some comments that there is a very small delay lag on some Bluetooth sets. Is this a big issue or something that can be ignored.

Thanks all

Most use traditional over your ears type headphones, what machine have you got? This will have a bearing on your final choice.

I've got a Fisher F75 which only has a normal style socket for headphones. I was thinking about trying out a Bluetooth transmitter to go cord-free though.

Careful choosing a transmitter as the lag on some is far worse than others, and it makes them unusable...the one mentioned in my sig line was recommended on here and while it probably does has a tiny amount of lag, it's unnoticeable in practice...

Have a look at these. I have used them for some time now on my eTrac and GMP. A very good and flexible piece of kit. No lag.

I personally love over the ear ones but they can get hot in the summer. It’s personal choice at the end if the day. Do you listen to music on your phone? What headphones do you prefer to use for that? I’d start with that type and see if it works for you.

Going wireless will change your world though :D

+1 for the Detecnix set up as Widgeon suggested.

We had these for our T2's. The receiver and transmitter type combination, batteries lasted around 6-7 hours. The receiver always went flat first which wasn't a problem since you can simply just plug the headphones straight back into the machine for the remainder of the hunt [:)

Your experience of battery duration is exactly the same as mine. I bought one of those power bank gizmos with two outputs and leads to charge both receiver and transmitter. As my detecting pal and I always take about an hour break at lunchtime, the booster charge from the power bank enables them to last longer.
Having said that, my own personal 'power bank' has usually had enough after six hours detecting, :D .
My wife made me a leatherette pouch for the transmitter, with a piece of Velcro tape stitched on to it. The hooked part of the tape I stick to the detector (semi permanently). That arrangement works very well for me.
