Back in 1966 or 1967 as a young lad in the RAF stationed in Cyprus, I used to get letters from my Gran in South Wales. I remember in one of the letters she had included a clipping from a local newspaper which showed a large tree that had fallen and the text of the piece went on about a large find of Roman coins in the hole where the tree had stood. My Gran lived in Fleur de Lys in South Wales so I reckon it must have been somewhere near to the village for her to have taken an interest in it. I wasn't detecting back then and have never chased up the story and sadly she has long since passed so if any of you are local to that area and have access to old newspaper records, may be worth checking up on, could be a settlement in the area.
