Hit the beach at 4.50am to be greeted by the sight of a tent in the area I wanted to detect. Looking Westwards, more tents dotted about, which should not be there. I`m one of those that just detects dry sand, the 400i was left on the inland settings of ; Iron Audio Off, Custom Mode, Discrim below 60 and 2 bars off Max Sensitivity.
Walked up about 3 Groynes West and had a decent sized area to dig. After couple of minutes 1st signal Pound coin. Good, as long as I get a couple of Quid, more than covers Petrol. A few coins and beer bottle tops. Did a good sized area and noticed a couple of people who had been sat between the next 2 groynes had gone. Heading up that way got a signal which turned out to be a pocket spill of about 8 coins, always a bonus.
Spent around half an hour gridding an area close to the groyne, wher some one had had a large gathering looking at the empty beer bottles stacked on the groyne. Getting closer, on the other side of the groyne were several people under quilts, kept my distance. Couple of tent pegs, emerged from the Chine carrying large pieces of timber, no doubt to cook breakfast later on. Time to retreat to the other end of this section where I carried on gridding.
3 hrs detecting, accumulated 5 Pounds and 24 New Pence,

along with several bottle tops,

successful session.
Now for some Covid advice.
Not something that is likely to affect those still detecting inland, as most of the signals are of items that have been in the ground, years, Decades, Centuries and even Millenia if you are lucky.
For those who just dig wet sand, the risk is not quite as high as for those digging dry sand only.
This concerns recent losses.
Looking at my coin photo, there is one old round Pound and a 10p that were lost a long time ago. The rest of the coins are bright & shiny, lost very recently, probably in the last week. Where do men keep their loose coins, in their pocket, along with handkerchiefs, keys etc, etc.
How do coins get on the beach ?

Bottle tops, all recent, once again handled and discarded, as you will notice, no real Ale, Bitter, hardly any Cider.
If you detect dry sand just be careful. Already had barrier cream on, plus gloves, although i have only worn gloves during the summer on the beach the past couple of years. Bottle tops, if you dig you should remove. Would you like your Child, Grandchild, Niece , Nephew standing on the serrated edge. Coins go in a jar that i do not touch until next year. Always have a running Total and yearly total, so i know what i have found.
Stay safe and think about what we actually touch.
Cheers and good Luck everyone,

Dave.
