Opening Pandoras Box - Beach silver, and some!

Post by fred »

Late yesterday afternoon as I set off detecting i discovered that I'd got the low tide time wrong and the beach that I Iwas intending to visit wasn't feasible. As I hadn't been out for several days I decided to check the condition of all the local beaches instead.

As expected they were mostly pretty grim and not even worth unloading the detector for. I eventually ended up trying a few places where recent bulldozed shingle was starting to separate out. My very first signal was a kids junk bracelet just below the surface, although the moment that I picked it up I knew that it was something a bit better.

The rest of the detecting was mostly fishing weights and coins, made slightly more interesting by a local detectorists driving out so that I could help him set up his Nox a seal drifting happily around 20 yards offshore and the novelty of being caught in a shower. [88/]

Once hope I had a closer look at the bracelet and could see that it is a Pandora one with 15 charms on it. I have found several of the charms before and knew that they cost between about £25 and £50 quid each so the bracelet is quite valuable. I suspect that it was recently moved by the bulldozers as it has been lost for long enough for a thick black tarnish to develop but all the clips still work as they should. I have done a quick clean to fush out the salt water and clear off some of the tarnish. These bracelets are very personal and I am more hopeful than usual that I will be able to get it back to the original owner.

Early this morning I finally made it to the beach that I had intended to visit yesterday. As always it was nice to be out but it was quite chilly and the wind was blowing a gale. I just about covered the petrol money and parking but that's detecting for you. [81/]

Are you going to put out notice on facebook, that will find her I bet?
I suspect that she might not now be quite so young - but good luck Fred and well found!

careful when cleaning pandora charms as some of them are like a guild material and you can strip them to a dull colour that can not be put right. And yes i did do it [20/]

The bracelet would have cost some money. I have a charm bracelet of the old fashioned variety which I rarely wear because I don't want to lose it. sentimental value. I have to say that the whole Pandora type charms are a massive victory for marketing over substance....but on the other hand they seem less likely to ladder one's tights than conventional charms so perhaps there is something in it. [87/] Whoever lost it would have been gutted....we will be intrigued to see if you can reunite it with the owner.
