Reading the beach two!!
As I was driving to one of my beaches I call in at beaches on the way to have a check on the state of the beach. On viewing this beach I spotted a small clearing close to the car park as you can see in the picture so decided to stay. When the tide went further out there was a large area which had been washed down to the clay layer which uncovered an ancient forest from about 6000 years ago when the sea level was much lower, with help from a couple of children I uncovered lots of stuff including all the fishing weights.

Sorry the bit being uncovered is where the one bit of white water is touching the beach.ROCK HOPPER wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:14 am As I was driving to one of my beaches I call in at beaches on the way to have a check on the state of the beach. Nice going, what do you do with the lead, reuse, give it away or collect to recycle for cash?, I recently cashed my stuff in and was pleasantly surprised. Its nice when nature helps out and makes things easier.

I take the lead to a company called Henry Orchard here in Cornwall 100kg at a time, I used to sell it to the local tackle shop but he has retired and gone fishing. Last load I took I received £110, already have 40+kg for the next trip.AndyM wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:20 am Nice going, what do you do with the lead, reuse, give it away or collect to recycle for cash?, I recently cashed my stuff in and was pleasantly surprised. Went out yesterday to Mawgan Porth but it looked like most of the population was there but no where I was detecting but it was a waste of time, all rubbish.
Some of those weights had been there a while, the loops are rusted away and I don't know anyone that uses those awful round watch grip leads anymore!
Them old round ones used to come on crabbing lines sold with buckets and spades to kids, I think awareness of the environment and cost has now put a stop to the that, although the buckets and spades are still about, seem to be a single use item now, leave it on the beach with all your other rubbish, been a long time since I seen anyone using them, mind you last time I went fishing must be 50 years ago, it wasn't for me.
As for the lead I just off loaded some lead, brass and copper, £64.00 all told, nice. think it was 30kg of lead 30kg copper and about 5kg of brass I think, it soon adds up.

I also have loads of brass and copper about a 5 gallon bucket full all small items so I expect it will go as brass. I bet that when you went fishing your first fish was not a 9lb 12oz Bass as mine was when I first went to live in Sidmouth, after that I was hooked!AndyM wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 4:43 pm Them old round ones used to come on crabbing lines sold with buckets and spades to kids, I think awareness of the environment and cost has now put a stop to the that, although the buckets and spades are still about, seem to be a single use item now, leave it on the beach with all your other rubbish, been a long time since I seen anyone using them, mind you last time I went fishing must be 50 years ago, it wasn't for me.
