I was suprised to not see a review on the Nokta Simplex up here, so here is my thoughts on the machine.

This is a well made machine that looks similar to a Minelab Nox. It has rechargeable batterys and is waterproof to 10 ft. The whole machine has sliding stems so is easyily collapsible and extendable. When fully extended there is a slight wobble on the coil, but I never found this a problem. The machine is a single freq. and works on 12 khz. there is a option in the menu to move the freq. slighty by using F1, 2 or 3.

The main reason I bought the machine was for beach detecting. Unfortunatly in this the machine failed. I took it down to my local beach several times, and whilst it was useable on the dry sand when the sand was damp or wet, it had a constant chatter to it. I placed the ground balance down to zero, and this helped a bit. I then reduced the sensitivity by 50% to a 3 on the meter, this made the machine usable, but still chatty. I do not know how much depth was lost but I could still detect a pound coin at 6 inches, but it was not as good a signal as I would have liked. But it was still quite readable. If I dropped the sensitivity down any further then the machine just did not detect anything deepish.

The pin pointer also cause's havock with the machine, but there is a button you can press to turn the speakers off. Of course you must remember to turn them back on, and on more than one occasion I went 50ft or so with them turned off.

I did try the machine out on dry land when I went on a club dig and here it performed quite well. I must admit though that the tones given out by the machine are not what I would call nice tones. They are quite a sharp tone and a bit staccato and bitty. The main problem was that this machine has to chat with other machines. A couple of lads complained that my machine was giving them interferance. The same was happening to me, and the machine was unusable, and this was when I got within about 50ft of another machine. I dread going to a big dig with loads of simplex's there.

In conclusion this machine was not for me. It is well made, but has user issues. Now I might have just had a rogue machine, but if you are going to buy one I suggest you go to the shop and get them to turn on a deus or two and see what happens.

Hope someone finds this helpful
