Sandridge
Sandridge
This is very much a long shot but I'm wondering if anyone has access to the videos of the retrieval of the Sandridge Hoard, Herts, back in 2012, the only links to the videos I've found so far are all broken, It does have something of a personal attacment to me as its the village I originally grew up in, its fair to say I knew all the fields and woodlands all around quite intimately, I knew the farmer who had the job of reinstating the ground after the Archi's had finished with it, sadly he has since died.
This is more an exercise in curiosity, I've no interest in detecting it, A, its now 100 miles away and B, I dont have any permissions around the village, Id just like to see if the videos corrospond with where I think it was, a longshot yes but you never know!

I would think a lot of the video`s etc were removed due to the legal complexities surrounding the case.

Item 75 on these minutes (and subsequent minutes) explain the legal aspect. https://finds.org.uk/documents/treasure ... -12-13.pdf

Im sure the exact area was publicised at the time it was a very small wooded area in some fields, it could of been the finder who publicised it because he was new to the hobby .

Whatever the circumstances of the find, it is still a very nice one and well done to the finder for originally reporting it.
Also appreciate it was found a long time ago![ThumbsUp [81/]](./images/smilies/81_EmoticonsHDcom.png)

Yes great find , there has been a few big finds that have been disputed. The Milton Keynes hoard (wikipedia)finder adamant he had permission, farmer disagreeing. Another very big hoard found a few years ago still in dispute, permision granted to a person but not his friends.

What is the definition of a hoard? I believe I saw on "Time Team" or "Digging for Britain" that the definition was more than 3 coins close together. Does the definition differ by country or have a bearing on the process with the Government?

The answer to your first question can be found here: Summary of the Treasure Actdonaldcwhitney wrote: Mon Jan 11, 2021 1:36 am What is the definition of a hoard? Your second question is best directed to each of the countries concerned as they are liable to have made individual interpretations.
