Explorer

Post by Barbossa76 »

I've got a Explorer on route, looking forward to learning it ,
I'm hoping there's presets to start me off.

When you get the minelab you might think about a detector buddy cos they are fairly heavy

Good idea! I'm hoping it'll fit in rucksack, (I cycle everywhere) I know it's a older machine.
But really excited can't help it, seems pretty highly thought of.

It's a great machine and mega deep. All metal is the way to go and sensitivity as high as possible as the site will allow. [81/]

That's good to hear, I don't mind if their a bit weighty, the last minelab I had was the sovereign xs2.
Which was awesome, so I'm looking forward to this. I'm detectorless until it arrives.

If you have an XS, order an explorer 2 or etrac lower shaft, the XS one is plastic and riveted together, the later one is carbon and much less wobbly.

Put a bit of insulating tape on the upper shaft where the camlock connects it to the control box, as you swing the machine that joint works loose which puts pressure on the wiring, so a little tape gives it a better grip.

They're good machines, there's just the odd design flaw that is a bit irritating.

There's a post a while ago in this part of the forum, has a big list of settings.

Personally I prefer the ferrous tones as I run the machine wide open, if you use discrimination you might prefer conductive.

You'll get it in a rucksack but you'll need to completely break it down unless we're talking about a huge hiking one.

I'd suggest using a sling or your arm will fall off, they're weighty.

One word of warning from someone who found out the hard way. I used to walk 6 miles each way to detect when I didn't have a car. Used to put my explorer in bits in a rucksack.

One night it rained hard, water ran down the stem and into the control box.

Just something you might not think of!
