Threshold problem

Post by Cscopain »

Hello,
I think I have a problem with my new cs3mxi.
When I switch on the detector in loudspeaker mode I don't hear any threshold noise even with the sensitivity at maximum, with the headphones I have a little threshold noise from 8.
On the videos of the cscope site we can hear the background noise at 7 in speaker mode.
Thank you and good day.

Having had a quick look at the online manual here is a snippet that maybe of use....
Some detector users prefer to set the sensitivity control
at a point where there is no background tone, sometimes called ‘silent search’.
With the detector set like this it is more noticeable when a target signal occurs. If the detector is set
at maximum sensitivity there will be an audio tone constantly in the background and a metal target
will be registered by a short increase in the intensity of that tone

Thank you for your answers,
I can still slightly hear the threshold in my headphones from 8 in sensitivity and I cannot hear it at all in speaker mode except with my ear placed against the speaker at 10 in sensitivity.
Otherwise the detector seems to work well with a pleasant sound on a coin.
Thanks for your help, it's nice.

I can't be 100% sure

but does the cs3mxi have a threshold setting ?

normally there's a knob marked threshold. Most detectors dropped this setting way back in the 90s

I have often thought it would be a Good idea to have a threshold signal it one ear and a beep in the other. Hot and cold rocks would not match the beep.

Good morning all,
I contacted Cscope for my sound threshold problem which is not a problem 😊
Great response from Martin that I thank:

Thanks for your email regarding your CS3MX-I . Around 2/3 years ago, the specification was altered slightly on the CS3MX-I as the threshold was audible from around 7 and users thought they were losing sensitivity as the threshold was very loud by the time the sensitivity control was set to 9, making it impossible to hear a “target signal” above the threshold tone.

I would say your detector is working well, if you did wish to alter the threshold and you are happy to open the control box, we can tell you what to do. However, if you are happy with it’s performance, I would leave it as it is.
