My first find worth posting!

Post by matchless »

I was helping remove the broken railings at my local Church, and removing self sown trees etc. and found this bottle on the surface, does anyone have an idea of age? The bottle is 6 1/2" tall, the location is near Epping Essex, just north of London, I am trying to get permission to detect in some fields next to another church in our parish, not really got into the detecting yet,

That's a nice bottle! Have you found out where the "Seaman's hospital" was and if it still exists?

Seamans Hospital was at Greenwich, near the Cutty Sark , next to the Naval College, dont know if its the same as one as on the bottle ?

Must be the same! Could be a little dump under there. I've only ever found broken medicine bottles, so I am very envious!

Probably just a single throw away - but still a very nice piece of local history.

Its would seem highly unlikely that a church would have been used as a dumping ground.
