More information Waterloo Liverpool bottle

Post by jonah1973 »

Found these two bottles and a few more in my dads garden recently. Does anybody know any more information on age?
The Waterloo bottle still has a pub on the site of 6 Church Road, The Lion & Unicorn.
Unfortunately can’t find any more info on Montgomery & Co.
As well as these there is a Charles Mason, Skelmersdale bottle, Edmondson “In full swing” Liverpool and 2 Peter Walker Warrington bottles.

Very nice couple of bottles there, with no sign of damage or sickness. Green is always a much more appealing colour than brown. It seems your man Thomas Montgomery was a bit of a dodgy character, manufacturing his own products and passing them off as someone else's. The brewery began in Liverpool although I can't find any mention of the address on your bottle. The business later expanded to Stone in Staffordshire.

He sold the brewery to Bent's in 1889 after which they traded as Bent's - so your Montgomery bottle must pre-date 1889.
