Bad day turned good

Post by J.DILLOWAY »

Recently had a day detecting on huttoft beach lincolnshire, 4 hours and nothing, not even a ring pull, now there's a surprise! no bottle top's,nothing, about to give up and go home got a signal a bloody tent peg, another signal 5p, went back to the car, I drive a 1986 2cv somebody was looking round the car he introduced himself as a classic car enthusiast and a coin dealer, he gave me a card and asked what I found I showed him the 5p it turned out it was the very small one only made for a year, showed me the value on his phone £4.50, he gave me £5.00, any future valuation's of coins free, and imediate cash purchase,so a bad day can turn into a good one.

well done,
who would have thought a 5p coin would be worth a fiver. I need to investigate this further as I ( and no doubt others), normally toss modern coinage in a junk drawer.
Thanks for the interesting post [81/]

Well I was surprised when he said it, but he said it was worth a £5 i'll take the money any day for something I cant spend, when I got home I was thinking about it and remember something about them only being made for a short time, the milled edge on them is rounded not squared off as well, they were about 3/8 in diameter.
