Don't forget to take your detector so you can see what signals you get from a large chunk of gold and silver :))

oooh so jealous I bet its a magnificant sight in the flesh as such.
Its better out of the ground and in your hand for the history or monetary value rather than left in the ground to rot doing nothing for anyone.

I had a slot booked to see it yesterday but then my new granddaughter inconsiderately arrived a week ahead of time and I had to miss the hoard. Trying to reschedule for Monday.

Well what can i say...

You get 45mins to have a nosey around at your pace, security is present,obviously..Doh.

But seriously, those saxons made some of the finest pieces, the detail and colours are stunning,i honestly havent seen anything produced in this modern day look as ornate, detailed and beautiful as was produced by the saxons.
I was amazed and i dont use the word "beautiful" lightly,im a man ;)

So if you got a spare 1 hour and not to far away go have a look.

Only small with about 40 pieces but well displayed, also replica stuff like helmets,swords..Hey there even a bullseye pointer, and a whites detector lol.

Gaz :)

Yeh, your right Gaz, the pieces are out of this world, i saw them last year at Brum museum, most of the items still had dirt on em......Any body around the Staffs area free this sunday, should pay a visit to Wall near Lichfield, its open day at the Roman site. only a small site but ther is usually some good displeys on, our club The Three Spires Search Society is putting out a stall with roman finds made by club members, also i believe a sand pit with buried items for kids to have bash at with borrowed detectors........hh BAZ

Went and had a look this morning. Well displayed small exhibition. The quality of the pieces is incredible it's such a pity that almost every one was deliberately damaged before it was buried. Although the gold finds were spectacular, my favourite was a silver sword pommel.

Why is everything on when I'm duty manager? I'd have come over to Wall tomorrow, but I'm at work all weekend.
