River finds

Post by Hallbo »

I am also a fisherman and the weather has caused the ponds and rivers to drop quite drastically.

I do find items quite often and while wading I often kick up items of interest. It is usually lost fishing items which are mostly lead but I have found a lot of bottles and pottery and a couple of rings.

There has been an occasional coin but it is not really practical to carry a detector with me and I did consider carrying a pin pointer.

It would have to be waterproof but I am unsure of the best type of pin pointer to use?

What I mean is, do they all pick up iron and lead or can they discriminate?

While clearing out fallen trees and beds of rushes in thick silt my latest find was a mint Codd bottle but I am sure that I miss most metal items.

Any ideas?
