Old land aerial photos
I was recently on my only permission and started yapping to the yard manager who told me of a different field of the farmers that might be worth detecting on as he knows there were once something built there as he had many years before seen old black and white aerial photos of ruins on the land. So whilst taking the farmer his Christmas crate of old speckled hen ale I mentioned if I could have permission to try this field which he agreed to. Now does any one know of any websites that I could go on to see aerial views of the field so I can see for myself and have an idea where to detect. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Rob
I may have misunderstood your question, but googleearth is great for this sort of thing. The pictures can be a few years old.
Some drone shots my give you a better idea of "current events"?

I got some really nice aerial photos - going back to the 1940's - from the national archive. They weren't cheap, but they are fascinating (as is the improvement in image quality over the years since then). https://ncap.org.uk/Pilgrimrob wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:38 am I was recently on my only permission and started yapping to the yard manager who told me of a different field of the farmers that might be worth detecting on as he knows there were once something built there as he had many years before seen old black and white aerial photos of ruins on the land. Old arial photo's have recently been added as one of the overlay options on the side by side map service, I only noticed them as an option for the first time last week

Two good aerial photo sites:
'Cambridge Air Photos', and 'Britain from Above'

Hi Hubcap. I’m really hoping to see some sort of clue that there was once buildings on the field. Google earth is fantastic for present day though. Thanks for the reply thoughHubcap wrote: Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:57 am Hi Rob

Google earth pro (not google maps / online google earth) has a slider at the bottom which allows you to go back to the 1940s if the photos are there. Pro is a download for desktop computers.

Use the Georef Map site National Library Scotland.
Side by side maps, aerial and they have recently added aerial from 1940`s to 1950`s.
Good Luck,
Dave.
